Help me help you, Jens Lekman: the art of the email interview

So I wanted to interview our favorite Swedish troubadour, Jens Lekman, and I'm getting frustrated for a couple of reasons: 1. the insistence on an email interview. What's with that? and 2. He's not prompt! If we had done this on the phone we'd be done by now and I'd be writing a great little piece on how he's pretty swell.

But I'm feeling cranky because he's late with his replies, and I find the email interview to be a weird thing anyways. (The only ones that I've done before have been with divas. Like Malkmus.) How do you make an email interview good? It takes away nearly all spontanaeity. It's so pre-planned!
