Decemberists- Picaresque

cdwill, Friday, 28 January 2005 18:44 (twenty-one years ago)

my favorite thing about the lee ann womack album is that they sent it to me as an actual MCA vinyl record!!!! with a CD stuck to the center of the record!!! how albini is that? and the cover is so 70's country pretty. and i like the record too. especially, "twenty years and two husbands ago" and "i may hate myself in the morning".

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 28 January 2005 18:46 (twenty-one years ago)

but as much as i enjoy the lee ann womack album, it's all about immolation for me right now. yonkers death metal at its finest.

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 28 January 2005 18:47 (twenty-one years ago)

i wasn't even aware the aweseome jo dee a/k/a jody had a new one coming...but if she does, i hope she covers britney and ac/dc songs on it, like when i saw her live a couple years ago.

jennifer gentle - valende

peter smith (plsmith), Friday, 28 January 2005 19:01 (twenty-one years ago)

mannie fresh may well be by favorite album of the year so far.

and i probably jumped the gun on leslie west; i should give it more time before i recommend. it's definitely got some good parts, though.

chuck, Friday, 28 January 2005 19:01 (twenty-one years ago)

(i.e.: "the cell", reportedly an old unreleased mountain song, but really more like a cross between kid rock and wolfman jack except set in a jail and stompingly beautiful in its own special way)

chuck, Friday, 28 January 2005 19:14 (twenty-one years ago)

There is a Fake Fictions full-length now? Awesome.

Procedural question: are these rolling threads intended to serve as just memory-joggers now? I always look in and then realize it'd take an hour of googling to sort through parts of it. Maybe if -- for new acts and non-obvious items -- we tried to include two or three words of genre/description/identification? Most everything so far here is knowable, but once it piles up into eleven months...

nabisco (nabisco), Friday, 28 January 2005 21:28 (twenty-one years ago)

You are now the Boy Genius. (Or Man, if you want.) (Boy Man, that is.)

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 28 January 2005 21:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I'm not sure what the point of this thread is, either. I just started a sub-blog a la Matos so I could remember what albums I've heard this year.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 28 January 2005 21:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I figured this thread could serve the same purpose as the singles threads (or the purpose to which I used it) - a way to make list-making easy, & a way to find out what's out this year (& talk a bit about it).

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 28 January 2005 21:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, I like numbering things.

569) Yep.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 28 January 2005 21:43 (twenty-one years ago)

the untitled new beck album

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Friday, 28 January 2005 22:31 (twenty-one years ago)

THE KLEZMATICS: Brother Moses Smote the Water (fucking excellent: live show of gospel songs and Jewish songs)
LADYSMITH BLACK MAMBAZO: No Boundaries (pretty damned good: those harmonies with backing orchestra)
SHIVAREE: Who's Got Trouble? (she's a great songwriter but needs a punchy band)

The Obligatory Sourpuss (Begs2Differ), Saturday, 29 January 2005 04:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Hamasaki Ayumi - My Story (actually released in late Dec. in Japan, but if we counted MTA2 last year then surely this one can be '05)
Prefuse 73 - Surrounded by Silence
Patrick Wolf - Wind in the Wires (gorgeous dreamscapes from an English wunderkind with just a touch of electro-pop)
Doves - Some Cities

Josh Love (screamapillar), Saturday, 29 January 2005 18:26 (twenty-one years ago)

scott seward (scott seward), Saturday, 29 January 2005 18:33 (twenty-one years ago)

MOMUS - OTTO SPOOKY

Supposed to be out Jan 25th, but I don't see it anywhere. I see some places listing it as Feb 7th (US).

Patrick South (Patrick South), Saturday, 29 January 2005 18:54 (twenty-one years ago)

i've only listened to it once and not much really jumped out at me to be honest, but that's pretty much par for the course with them, their goodness tends to reveal itself kinda slowly from past experience.

Josh Love (screamapillar), Saturday, 29 January 2005 19:19 (twenty-one years ago)

lots of tremelo picking on that new doves

thats my only thought about it so far so i didnt bother to make a thread
