Those of you who have band websites - what are the pros and cons of having a forum? Overall, do you consider it a good way to go?

It would be a pro for me b/c it would mean there's actually enough people out there who give a shit about us!

potentially classic

you could talk to your fans about how wonderful you are without them even knowing IT's ACTUALLY YOU!!!

or you could troll your own board, brutally slagging yourself off and basking in the glow as regulars leap to your defence guns blazing, dear brave soldiers.

all in all the most reprehensible type of egotism...

I thoroughly applaud.

There seem to be a lot of indie (in the broad sense) bands who set up a forum which just creaks along, with very few posts. On the other hand, there are a few which seem to be thrumming along nicely.

I remember when Ooberman split. A couple of "Thanks, its been nice to know you" posts from the band, drowned out by "you coming to the pub and who does Lisa look most like" type messages.

I know, that's like here, but here the format works better and keeps things seperate by design.

for most bands there seems little point to have a forum. you see a lot where there are only a dozen posts and they are lame.

Yeah. If there's lots of people discussing stuff then it's good, but if it's empty save for you posting your gig details and then someone writing 'you = suxx0rs' then it, well, sucks.

Just like any forum.

Absolute dud. Like the internet needs more narrow forums!

Blog Commenting is abotu as much feed back as most bands need on their own websites. unless you are Kylie and have a whole range of underwear.

the only problem is that blog comment spam has kinda ruined that for most people.
