It's out on soulseek. I have enjoyed it so far, although it doesn't seem as compelling to me as some of their earlier albums. In any case, it seems like eef has got back some of the cynicism that seemed eerily absent on soft spot. A lot of the songs are more 'straighforward' somehow and seem to lack a bit of the quirkiness that initially made them so endearing. I guess that's just the course the band has decided to take. It seems like most albums I enjoy put it in high gear for the first half, and then sputter out in the second. That is not really the case here, as the album really comes into its own with the sequence of 'jews for jesus blues', 'god answers back' and 'made for tv movie', the last of which is about watching a made-for-tv movie about lucille ball, and it contains these wonderful lyrics: 'my facts aren't always straight/they would never make a movie if everything was great/because happiness is boring, it's always black and white/the good times never last/and the chocolates move too fast for us all'. I saw clem snide in austin last year, and when they played that song, I am pretty sure eef said something about having just written it. If you are a Clem Snide fan already, you will probably be satisfied by end of love. If you are trying to turn your friends onto them, I would stick with your favorite music or the ghost of fashion.

this is my first post, by the by. huzzah.

i've tried to get into clem snide a few times, but i always seem to have trouble connecting. ditto for this one, unfortunately - though i think "jews for jesus blues" and "god answers back" are pretty ace. the production on the guitars sounds a bit weird, methinks.

i find some of it a little "sweet spot"-banal (see: "Tiny European Cars"), but I love the bit of bite and feedback that squeezes its way in... I wouldn't be surprised if I grew to love this, even more than my prior fave, Favourite Music.

three weeks pass...
I'm really liking it so far. More straightforward production/instrumentation wise and I think it works. The songs are pretty strong.

Actually, it fades pretty bad towards the end.

My favorite CS since Your Favorite Music, Made for Tv Movie might be their best song yet.

Has anyone heard Eef's new solo album? Any good?

sadly, no.

Have to disagree Sean, picked up Eef's Bitter Honey cd and I like it. Not as good as Favorite Music or End of Love because I miss the varied backing instruments. This is purely solo acoustic stuff. However it does make me appreciate the lyrics more than I usually would.
