Blood on the wall! totally fun. a bit rip off pixies, but whatever. Vietnam might be the most boring new "buzz" band I've seen. Sounded like generico southern heartland rock. UGHHHH....psychic ills were really fun though.

ps. that new TODD P space was really fun/cool

blood on the wall pretty much rule. and i think they have good enough sense of history to not just rip from the pixies. one time i saw them it was like every good rock band ever rolled together.

I had the misfortune of Djing in Greenpoint last night -- on the other side of the snowstorm from this extravaganza. Everyone who finally came in around 4 was raving about about the space.

yeah it is a really awesome space. i'm excited things like this are going on. blood on the wall are just pure fun and they sounded pretty good. VIETNAM was atrocious. the room basically cleared out when they came on to "headline"

I saw Blood on the Wall with the Rogers Sisters, Sightings, and Measles Mumps Rubella at CBGB's last summer, and while decent enough, they were also pretty unremarkable.

yeah, i can hear ya on that jeff. i think in comparison to VIETNAM, they just seemed SO GOOD. haha

Vietnam have been described to me as being the world's worst Spacemen 3 ripoff band -- from the world's biggest S3 fanatic aka Gator Magoon, and he would know.

anyway you slice it, vietnam suck hard. they even got kicked off the vice tour. you have to REALLY be a big turd to get kicked off an already shitty tour

owen reading, Monday, 31 January 2005 03:32 (twenty-one years ago)

hahah, aren't they signed to the actual Vice label? What happened with them being kicked off?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 31 January 2005 03:34 (twenty-one years ago)

they were signed to VICE for an EP, went on the Death from Above 1979 "vice tour" (ughhh) and acted prematurely too rock starish, had major tude, DFA 1979 said they wound't continue the tour if Vietnam stayed on, so they were kicked off. they DEF are not releasing anything on them in the near future. bit the hand that fed them I guess...

vietnam are teh suck. those dudes used to work at whole foods here in philly, junked up on heroin [so the rumors go] and then hightailed it off to NYC.

i caught them on the vice tour w/DFA79 and was totally non-plussed. bands like this make me hate music. more, i mean.

i hear you loud and clear. they blow hard. thankfully I don't think they are going anywhere, so we wont have to see/hear about them for much longer

blood on the wall were kind of lacklustre at that cbgb show mentioned, but in general they're fantastic. courtney has a side project called laughing water (i think) that i saw about a year ago, likewise fantastic.

lauren (laurenp), Monday, 31 January 2005 11:25 (twenty-one years ago)

BOTH BANDS SUCK.

ddb (ddb), Monday, 31 January 2005 15:24 (twenty-one years ago)

awww blood on the wall is fun enough if you dont' take them seriously. i mean they weren't mind blowing, but I liked them enough for what they were and were having fun and just seemed like nice people. yes, nice doesn't mean good music, but it certainly endeared me to them

owen reading, Monday, 31 January 2005 16:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah Blood on the Wall I saw last year and they were absolutely terrible. I wanted my money back. Vietnam is lame too. Sorry dudes.

mcd (mcd), Monday, 31 January 2005 16:16 (twenty-one years ago)

well i still stand strongly with my vietnam sucks mantra. horrible horrible horrible
