Was "Boys In the Bright White Sports Car" meant to be retro (lyrically) even in the 70s?

I don't think I've heard Brujeria.

There they go
The boys in the bright white sports car
Honking at all the girls
It's jack-of-all-trades Stan
And Jerry the garbage man

lyrics sound a bit T. Rex. "the car was probably stolen" - most Canadian thing to say ever

"if you know there's something wrong, why don't you right it" - vive la differance

I don't think I knew all those "Sports Car" lyrics until recently. They're kind of a bizarre fit with the minor-key operatic delivery.

Do you think the 'autodidact' in the Tragically Hip's "It Can't Be Nashville Every Night" is the 'boy in the bright white sports car' grown up? The "with its la la oh oh ohs" part sounds similar to Trooper's "na na na na na na" section

If that article were written with a dry wit or some sense of satire and the absurd it would almost be good.
