Oh I once found myself at a Modey Lemon gig. They were supporting some crappy garage rock band back when that shit was popular... uh, maybe the Von Bondies or someone. VBs were shit, Modey Lemon were actually really good! I had to review one of their EPs a year later though and it wasn't very exciting.

The Cuts are from SF. Really good live and 2 Over Ten (co-produced by Greg Cartwright of the Reigning Sound) sounds kind of like a bubblgum version of Television, in a good way.

The Lost Sounds are from Memphis. No Wave mayhem. I still haven't bought any of their records, but the live show is vicious. In The Red Records.

Modey Lemon were really good live. I think I saw them embarass a headlining act as well.

I assume by Regina Sound/ Too Much Guitar you mean The Reigning Sound/ Too Much Guitar? Also from Memphis, featuring Greg Cartwright of Oblivians infamy. IMHO one of the best rock bands going, and certainly the top of the heap in the garage sphere. Too Much Guitar is their third record and the only one I don't own. The first record was on SFTRI and subsequent releases on In The Red.

All I know of The Gris Gris is that they're big in garage-land and from Chicago (maybe?)

Never heard of Greg Ashley

Lost Sounds play catchy synth rock with punk-metal ferocity. The tunes have an epic sci-fi/horror vibe. They cleaned up their sound and brought the keyboards forward on the latest album. I saw them in Toronto last year and they were amazing, really intense. I just read an interview with Alicja Trout.

the gris gris are an awesome psych-kind of band from san fran. they came to TO last year and played an amazing show. also, nice house guests. listen to the album or see them, it's worth it.

yep I had The Gris Gris completely mixed up with somebody else. A houseguest who is familiar with them just informed me that Greg Ashley is the frontman. Modey Lemon, The Cuts, The Gris Gris and Ashley all have releases on Birdman Records.

Also, Alicja is HOTT.
