I am trying to think of a band name-- it sounds verbally like 'slint'-- it is one word, I am going bats

I think the word is a metal, like copper, maybe 80's early 90's kind of underground avant rock stuff, really good, members in other more popualar OR more esoteric bands-- CRUD! No one is going to get this I am sure, I realize I could not be more vague.
Not Wire, not Slint, a word LIKE that, Crim? Something robotic about them, like they only sang about outer space and robots-- the future. Shit.

A friend if mine played me some Chrome for the first time the other week. He described it as Can playing with The Stooges, and he was right - they are awesome.

Crud?
Crust?

BTW Chrome's two best records came out in the *70s*. Search: Half Machine Lip Moves and Alien Soundtracks.

They used to be available on one CD. Not sure if that's still the case. They do sound like Stooges/Can. I think I may have first read that in a very old Rolling Stone guide, but it's pretty accurate.

Add in a dash of Hawkwind perhaps too. Plus a bagful of secret ingredient X.

That two-fer came out on Touch & Go IIRC, somewhere around the turn of the nineties, but those records were also in and out of print on Dossier for most of the 80s. There was also a pretty sweet 7" called 'Chrome' by Jesus Lizard at about same time featuring a couple of Chrome covers ('Chromosome Damage' perhaps? Hmmm, what else?).

Chrome's "Red Exposure" is very good too.
