OMG, there was a scene where the monarch went "oh, there's a picture of me at danceteria, making out with stiv bators and lydia lunch!"

OMG LOL, i bet every rock dork in 5 counties just creamed their jeans at the reference.

for those who are all WTF on this thread, the venture bros. are a show on adult swim:

Yessir!

My own OMG moment came when the goth girl (Dr. Orpheus' daughter, Dean Venture's would-be paramour) name-dropped Adam Ant when discussing her skull & bones t-shirt.

Check the closing credits. The guy who does the music probably made out at the danceteria with stiv bators and lydia lunch.

that show is amazing.
though i missed this.

Ah, the other thread gave it away.

WHAT YOU LEARN BY GOOGLING: Doc Hammer (one of the writers on VB) & his wife (filmmaker Lisa Hammer, the voice of Triana Orpheus, the aforementioned goth girl) used to be (& might still be) in a group called Mors Syphilitica.

FOETUS X-POST!

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 31 January 2005 04:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah, this show! Between the Mors Syphilitica crew and Voltaire, Projekt has sorta cornered the market on young on-TV animator/goth bands.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 31 January 2005 04:42 (twenty-one years ago)

why would kids who are into animation be into goth music?

[thats a joke, one which i can make because my freshman year roommate in school was a gothy animation student.]

two years pass...
i just bought season 2 on dvd. and they're starting on season 3, now.

funny farm, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 23:25 (nineteen years ago)

SO BADASS.

John Justen, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 23:29 (nineteen years ago)

I BOUGHT THAT TODAY TOO
:)

chaki, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 23:30 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, I bought season 2 on Saturday and went through every single episode over the weekend. I wanted to pace myself but it's just so hysterical that we had to keep going to the next episode (at least I've still got bonuses and commentaries to go through). so many miles above almost all of Adult Swim's other original programing, in my opinion.

Alex in Baltimore, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 23:36 (nineteen years ago)

Klaus Nomi as villan, Foetus soundtrack?

INSTANT WINNER.

John Justen, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 23:37 (nineteen years ago)

incredible show

deej, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 23:39 (nineteen years ago)

...I bought it today too. What the hell is going on here?

Telephone thing, Tuesday, 1 May 2007 23:50 (nineteen years ago)

the the DVD that came with Foetus last album, LOVE, is a roundup of his music for ths show. makes me wish i had Adult Swim ..

mark e, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 00:00 (nineteen years ago)

That's what DVDs are for, Mark! I didn't buy the DVD today, though. I got it last weekend.

Jeff Treppel, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 00:02 (nineteen years ago)

i've not seen the DVDs in UK yet (to be honest - i rarely venture into the DVD section as i always get distracted by the tracklisting of the latest Ministry of Sound compilation)
will check as the clips on the Foetus disc look manically brilliant a la ren-n-stimpy, or the superb cow-n-chicken.

mark e, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 00:05 (nineteen years ago)

it's way better than Cow and Chicken, which I've never liked. Didn't know that you're in the UK, though. I don't know if they're out there yet.

Jeff Treppel, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 00:09 (nineteen years ago)

yup.
very very late shift. though time to call it quits.
not seen Cow-n-Chicken in years - kind of overdosed on it.
Need to investigate the Bros out though, as a Foetus seal of approval makes it a lot more interesting.
(i did note that the mussic i heard was a lot of the Steroid Maximus stuff i have - which always did sound like a soundtrack to a mad movie - so i guess the circle is complete)

If this doesn't convince you, nothing will:

Telephone thing, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 00:14 (nineteen years ago)

I think they used pre-existing music for the pilot, but after that it's all original.

Jeff Treppel, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 00:15 (nineteen years ago)

er, let's try that again:

If this doesn't convince you, nothing will:

But just in case...:

And yeah, it's all original after the pilot, which used pre-existing stuff ("Cirrhosis of the Heart," some Steroid Maximus, some others I can't remember at the moment).

Telephone thing, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 00:15 (nineteen years ago)

i need to buy season 2 on dvd. i love this show. just checking in.

GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 04:30 (nineteen years ago)

home movies still best show ever on adult swim.

filthy dylan, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 05:17 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, I might have to agree with that (which doesn't necessarily contradict me saying VB is best of all of Adult Swim's original programming, since Home Movies was on UPN at first). and Brendon Small's cameos on VB are hilarious.

Alex in Baltimore, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 05:34 (nineteen years ago)

two weeks pass...

the commentary on the dvd's are so good.

funny farm, Sunday, 20 May 2007 19:30 (nineteen years ago)

three years pass...

2nd half of season 4 starts tonight!.

Creeztophair, Monday, 13 September 2010 02:07 (fifteen years ago)

twelve years pass...

I still have a season to go, but this is such a fun show. I love so many of the characters. I'm going to be sad when I have finally seen them all. I had seen some episodes over it's run but for a long time it was hard to find the whole series streaming.

There is supposed to be a movie to finish up the whole thing, but I really would love to see them leap forward and do a series where the brothers are grown up and they have taken over the family 'business'.

Favorite characters:

Gary #21
Billy Quizboy
Dr. Girlfriend/Dr. Mrs. The Monarch
Brock Sampson

one month passes...

THE DOOM FACTORY...holy moly that was fun. The character designs and some of the lines for the Warhol inspired supervillains was fantastic. I'm kind of surprised Grant Morrison had not already done this before.
