From his blog:

speaking of rapping, because of my song going on fluxblog, i am remixing the next lady sovereign single and i'm getting a video made with a $20,000 grant from videofact. i have the same director who did a broken social scene video. neat. *quits writing*

You can hear his song at fluxblog.

oh yeah and i think the song is pretty good.

djdee2005 (djdee2005), Monday, 31 January 2005 08:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmm, this isn't doing it for me. No offense.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Monday, 31 January 2005 08:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Edmonton sounds like a scary place :)

djdee2005 (djdee2005), Monday, 31 January 2005 08:31 (twenty-one years ago)

if there's one thing we need, it's more shitty canadian indie rappers with videofact grants. i'ma stay up until three am so i can watch one of the three spins it gets on muchvibe.

BIG MOVES. rethink the rollie pimperton namechange. do you have any beef with the swollen members you could play up?

33333, Monday, 31 January 2005 08:37 (twenty-one years ago)

hating! Albeit amusing hating.

djdee2005 (djdee2005), Monday, 31 January 2005 08:39 (twenty-one years ago)

djdee, if you had ever listened to any other shitty internet soundclick rappers you wouldn't be so impressed by a guy using a downloaded audio program to pitch down his voice and sound less gay. i'd like to see him "rock a party in the literal sense" without rapping through one of those halloween robot voiceboxes

333333, Monday, 31 January 2005 12:12 (twenty-one years ago)

its a good track

Hari A$hur$t (Toaster), Monday, 31 January 2005 12:51 (twenty-one years ago)

like this beat but not feeling the rapping that much. its not bad, or embarassing at all, its fine, its just not that amazing. plus, this 'yo edmonton is just trife' type of lyricism is just a bit unamazing.

ppp, Monday, 31 January 2005 13:05 (twenty-one years ago)

haterz haven't heard him over mu's chair girl...

Nick Sylvester, Monday, 31 January 2005 14:59 (twenty-one years ago)

haha I'm not expecting Rollie to rock a party w/ this "jernt" or anything. I like it.

deej., Monday, 31 January 2005 17:18 (twenty-one years ago)

i got turned down for a videofact grant! but congrats rollie, that's awesome, glad to see they don't all go to the sam robertses of the world

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 31 January 2005 17:48 (twenty-one years ago)

haven't heard the track (can't download mp3s at the moment), but well done rollie!

m. (mitchlnw), Monday, 31 January 2005 19:17 (twenty-one years ago)

i like "oliver square"!

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 31 January 2005 19:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, "Oliver Square" just went on a mix cd I made.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Monday, 31 January 2005 19:37 (twenty-one years ago)

The Cadence Weapon mix cd is pretty hot in general - "Oliver Square" is the obvious highlight, but I'm a big fan of "Black Hand," "8 Ounces," "Sharks," and "Falco Meets Starfox." I'm totally impressed by Rollie.

Matthew "Flux" Perpetua, Monday, 31 January 2005 19:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I look forward to hot tunes when I get home.

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 31 January 2005 19:48 (twenty-one years ago)

With all due respect to Matthew, I am in a bit of disbelief that Rollie was offered a remix and video contract solely because he was on Fluxblog. Because really, that's just way too incredible.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Monday, 31 January 2005 20:04 (twenty-one years ago)

well, a videofact application takes months to process, so probably not.

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 31 January 2005 20:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I dunno, Michael: I was on Fluxblog once and look at me!

nabisco (nabisco), Monday, 31 January 2005 20:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm thinking about buying new pants soon!

nabisco (nabisco), Monday, 31 January 2005 20:08 (twenty-one years ago)

rollie, lemay, liam, dom, nitsuh - we can officially have a current/former pfm writer edition of the pfm record reviews now!

scott pl. (scott pl.), Monday, 31 January 2005 20:09 (twenty-one years ago)

djdee2005 (djdee2005), Monday, 31 January 2005 20:10 (twenty-one years ago)

fuckers. Well, there are nitsuh's pants.

djdee2005 (djdee2005), Monday, 31 January 2005 20:10 (twenty-one years ago)

scott, i think drew puts out the odd thing too.

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 31 January 2005 20:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Nabisco, what group are you in? What did I post? I am 100% confused about who you are.

Actually not a big shocker that Rollie got the remixing gig cos a lot of record industry/A&R types read the site.

Matthew "Flux" Perpetua, Monday, 31 January 2005 20:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Matt, thanx for linking to the shrimp.

djdee2005 (djdee2005), Monday, 31 January 2005 20:59 (twenty-one years ago)

No problem. For some reason I thought that I already had it linked, but when you changed yr URL, I realized that I never did.

Matthew "Flux" Perpetua, Monday, 31 January 2005 21:02 (twenty-one years ago)

(Matt: much as I'd like to claim that I'm New Young Pony Club, it was actually while you were away -- guest-G33ta put up a little synthpop thing I did a while back. By Promqueen. I like that song, though I think I suck less now.)

nabisco (nabisco), Monday, 31 January 2005 21:03 (twenty-one years ago)

hater dude, i apologize for having a deep voice or whatever. i've never heard of people changing their voices like that though, is that a toronto thing? it sounds a bit daft punk. the whole idea is pretty funny to me. i'm also half-american, if that helps your view. either way, thanks for the criticism, most of the time i only have people at shows wanking off about me.

i'm pretty excited about everything. i'm talking about signing with upper class recordings (cansecos, russian futurists) to put out my full-length. i've been sitting on a lot of this music for a while and only started releasing shit when i got back to edmonton.

scott, don't forget about hartley, he's an acoustic guitar dude i think, i got a e-flyer from nick s.

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH

Rollie Pemberton (Rollie Pemberton), Monday, 31 January 2005 21:22 (twenty-one years ago)

also, if he was smart and/or cool he would change his name to the mullah omar suggested "rollie pimperton". but i don't see that happening any time soon.
-- gabbo giftington (dubplatestyl...), October 15th, 2003.

that you, hater?

Beta (abeta), Monday, 31 January 2005 22:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey! Zow! Yo Beta!

I dig the track, Rollie, and I dig the idea of this and the Russian Futurists back to back on a label sampler.

And I think pitch-shifted raps are the god-damned future.
