Read somewhere that Pete Stride(must be late 40s) of The Lurkers 'fame' still lives with his mam.

I think I read that Brett Daniels of Spoon and Ted Leo were living (not together obv) with their folks a few years ago in order to make ends meet. I may be wrong.

I did mean to say... it's one thing if you've never lived anywhere else BUT with your mother, and you are now in your 40s; but as far a temporary situation gies, there's nothing to be embarrassed about...

I would prefer NOT to do it not out of "embarrassment" but because my mom and I would get on each other's nerves after three days.

The Syd Barrett thing isn't true. I think he lives in his mother's house which led to the rumor that he lives with his mother. But she's actually dead and he lives on his own.

I don't think Mascis lives with his parents any longer - his dad died about 12 years ago. He may live with a sister? It's been a long time since I was out that way.

Re: Old Skull - one of their dads was in the Tar Babies, a pretty good SST band of the era. I forget who it is, but seriously, theres an ILMer who used to actually be in Old Skull. Do a search!

For the record Pete Stride from the Lurkers had always lived with his mum. He was also proud at never having had a 'proper job'. Ever.
I would have thought that been in The Lurkers since 77/78 constitutes real graft.

I loved the Tar Babies. From Madison? They started out Hardcore didn't they and then ended up sort of funkrockgonewronginaniceway. Certainly better than the Chile Peppers anyhow.

Does no one else here read Texas Monthly? There is a long, interesting article about Daniel Johnston, who lives in his parents' house outside Houston, in the February 2005 issue. Apparently this is a hallmark of crazy geniuses (cf. Roky Erikson and Syd Barret, assuming Messrs. McCombs and The Drunk Dutch Mountain Dog have their facts straight).

Well, he did have a couple of years off in '80-'82 (apart from a couple of gruelling weeks recording The New Guitars album with John Plain of The Boys, of course) and again between '84 and '87.

No wonder he felt he had to pack it all in 5 or 6 years ago - the hectic pace must have been getting too much for him.

Syd did live in the basement while his mother lived...she passed sometime in the 80's i believe...his sister lives somewhere nearby and looks in on him and his gardening.
