know a guy who swears by the recording of contact mics frozen into blocks of ice which is then allowed to slowly thaw, crack and melt.

That ice-recording reminds me: Any of you ever heard the sound that metal makes when it comes into contact with dry ice? It screeches!

at the 2003 High Zero festival i saw Catherine Pancake heat up cymbals and pieces of metal in an oven and then place them on top of dry ice, it was pretty awesome

had a nice build; liked the way it moved from pure field recordings, to recording + voices, to recordings + voice - last one seemed to be several different sound sources intermingled?
also mike from touch records is a character. in a good way, i thought
― unknown pleasure zone (uptown churl), Sunday, 16 September 2012 15:06 (thirteen years ago)
I liked him dropping the "if a sound happens and no one is there to hear it" chestnut with an obvious air of yeah yeah yeah BUT

Enjoying "In St Cuthbert's Time". Has even made me look up Lindisfarne as a possible holiday destination.
Anyone rate any other similar artists or is Watson *enough* of this kind of thing?

The ice melting discussion from way up thread made me think of "Concret PH" by Iannis Xenakis. That piece is made of the manipulated sounds of charcoal burning. Definitely "music" that opened my mind to endless possibilities pretty early on.

Chris Watson and David Attenborough talking about their work together on BBC Radio 4 now. Fascinating stuff, I didn't know that Attenborough started as a sound guy himself.
