I know im not the only one who thinks that thanks to MTV and people like P-Diddy, hip-hop hasnt been getting the representation it deserves. not to say that there arent alot of rappers keeping it real, but on a whole its more bad than good. i was wondering what is there from the rest of the world? i listen too some Looptroop (swedish rappers) and Hilltop Hoods and such, any suggestions would be nice.

As far as German rap goes: above all others I recommend Curse, Eins Zwo (and any Dendemann solo work), and Nico Suave. Others simply cannot match these three in terms of lyricism (and the production on Eins Zwo work, particularly 'Zwei' is top-notch).
I'm also partial to the Sleepwalker 'Vorsprechtermin' comp (2 discs of Hamburg hip hop).

yes, "die Sekte" is SIDO's crew. and yes, their lyrics are controversial. charging them with straightforward racism is problematic as B-Tight and SIDO both have non-white parents.

I was aware of that, but still... I don't know, I still find it difficult to take for some reason. I mean, the chorus of "Der Neger" speaks for itself I believe. It seems less like an appreciation of his (B-Tight's) background and more like a condemnation of it.

i think you really misinterpret the lyrics. b-tight speaks of himself and he presents himself as getto-pimp style superhero in conventional
hiphop fashion, reappropriating the racist epithet. admittedly, parts of these lyrics also admit a straightforward interpretation if one is so inclined. but then that is true of most hiphop.

what i find more interesting is the precise nature of SIDOs and B-Tight's relationship. they come close to saying they are lovers at times and SIDO repeatedly raps that he would also let men suck his dick. not many rappers go that far in public.

I suppose that's true... I guess it could be interpreted both ways. I may have been reading it too literally.

Can you give me some more examples of what you're talking about in your second paragraph? I never heard anything about that in my reading about either of them.

well, i don't particularly liked these lyrics, but they are B-Tight's (whom i don't rate as a rapper) not SIDO's. the latter's writings occasionally verge on the brilliant. as to the latter, i can't access my computer that stores all my music at this point (monitor broken), so i can't tell you which songs this is in at this point, sorry. I think it on old material. on this website SIDO says: "B-Tight ist mein Partner und ich bin stolz drauf."
