Would Mr. Finney care to enlighten the skeptical members of our viewing audience with a more succinct justification for canonizing Ms. Howard's freaky booty call?

The Adina track isn't a classic, but it flows, and it's of a time when horrible 14 year old Nokia addicts weren't up to musical consciousness, so cool by default.
Music for little girls to buy jeans in Miss Selfridge to. Shit generation.

aw it's off the new DJ Spoony Garage Classical comp - basically garage covers with orchestral arrangements.
Lily Allen covering "Sweet Like Chocolate" and Paloma Faith covering "Moving Too Fast" too, among others: https://open.spotify.com/album/0ffDkx9XNvg59sxuWbUNYq?si=yOcJhCLDRV6uzMK-iYICKQ

"Flowers" doesn't sound *too* orchestra-y tho
― Xia Nu del Vague (Noodle Vague), Friday, 18 October 2019 10:02 (four years ago) link
xp me neither tbh but if it gets people on to the originals then more power to it. none of them are too orchestral-ish to be fair, they're more like orchestral ~flourishes~
― Roz, Friday, 18 October 2019 10:04 (four years ago) link
yeah i'm just kind of baffled why orchestral versions of stuff has become this minor thing

new twist on touring
― maura, Friday, 18 October 2019 12:39 (four years ago) link
these orchestral versions of dance music things always feel like an attempt to force some kind of perceived and unnecessary ~legitimacy~ on to music that doesn't need it
this is nice enough and their voices are always a pleasure to hear but I would never ever want to hear this over the original under any circumstance

In theory I like the idea of playing dance music with physical instruments, but you have to use it to add something, not to make it sound more glossy and, yes, "prestigious" - the grime prom a couple of years back actually worked, as (I think, you may disagree) does thishttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKFbnhcNnjE

Flowers is the only halfway decent one. Sincere, Movinâ Too Fast & Sweet Like Chocolate are all appalling.

anything with Paloma Faith is appalling

It's ancient but Jeremy Deller's Acid Brass had the right tone - it was ludicrous, but it was done with gusto. Here's a live version of "Voodoo Ray", that works because the original track has enough musical material to build an orchestration around:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdpwAxkCj7I
