scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 04:03 (twenty-one years ago)

He's a street-walking AMG, Ned! (So watch out)

don, Tuesday, 15 March 2005 04:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Don, I doubt it not! It is a fine reason why the man is love.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 04:08 (twenty-one years ago)

How do you find time for all of that, you lucky guy.

baby was in daycare.that's how i had time. after daycare all he wanted to hear was keren ann. "the wheels on the bus go round and round" is number one on his hit parade though.

m duke (noize duke), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 04:15 (twenty-one years ago)

i have to got to bed now. it was a long one. the nice thing about today was i made an arrangement to help the record dude sort out his records at the record store(he's got tons of rekkerds that go unloved cuz he is too busy to deal with them). which is nice, cuz i get bored and lonesome at home alone sometimes when maria is at work and rufus is at daycare and i don't want to write or paint. he is a nice fella.

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 04:19 (twenty-one years ago)

OMG, Dukey, how brilliant is that song???? "we are crazy/we are stupid" has been my mantra all day!!!

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 04:20 (twenty-one years ago)

tokyo godfathers

Funnily enough, a friend lent me a copy of this today.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 04:24 (twenty-one years ago)

i've never actually heard of anyone else having it too. really never before have i heard any mention of it that i didn't instigate myself. i'm shocked.

noizem duke (noize duke), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 04:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Weren't the Dynamic Superiors one of the first more-or-less-openly gay groups (at least among those who didn't take it back later, like Bowie and Reed did), also at least among those who in those days made it onto Soul Train or actually I think it was American Bandstand, where I saw them doing a really nice ballad (was it not the ones with chorus "Shoe-shoe-shine, it only costs a nickel"), and choreography incl. the lead singer (who may have been the only more--or-less-openly gay), suddenly, in midst of falsetto swoop, jumping and turning so that his buns were cupped in intertwined fingers of two other vocalists, so that he swung or swayed a little, like coming to a halt over the groove worn under the swingset, down by the old millstream, back when shoe-shoe-shine it only cost a nickel? And wasn't M.Frog in Utopia or was that Wynder K. Frog or am I mislead cos M.Frog and Utopia and/or Todd were on Bearsville (too)?

don, Tuesday, 15 March 2005 05:01 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah he was in utopia, but this record blows all of that shit out of the water IMHO

noizem duke (noize duke), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 05:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Well I should certainly hope so. All the Big Lots (remainders of all kinds of merchandise, incl. bombs of all senses) stores around here are overflowing with Rhino Utopias, long after everything else is pickis gone (except for the GRP "jazz")

don, Tuesday, 15 March 2005 05:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I have 2 M. Frog albums (Labat and Underwater Electronic Orchestra) that I should've mentioned on that other thread as being among the LPs I would reissue if I had a label. They're sporadically genius.

Dave Segal (Da ve Segal), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 05:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, the Dynamic Superiors singer Tony Washington was a big old queen. That TV appearance sound incredible! I think he was the only openly gay soul singer in the mid-Seventies, except for Sylvester and Rev. Carl "Born This Way" Bean. I have one Sylvester and the Hot Band album where he does "Southern Man" and a few other rock 'n' roll-y covers. I remember being a little disappointed by it., I thought it'd be more Ike & Tina, it was just sort of competent. I should give it another listen. He looks great on the cover.

Scott, is the Dynamic Superiors album you're talking about the one with the really garish drawing of them, the one with really bright colors, blue eyeliner and butterflies? It kind of reminds me of the cover of the Disco Tex album.

Arthur (Arthur), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 06:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Jesus scott, I don't even own Firefly and i might be the biggest Uriah Heep freak on ILM. Well done, my friend.

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 14:51 (twenty-one years ago)

scott, gareth, just got in my copies of paul parrish, robbie basho and 500mg. i am in heaven. check the locust music reissue of the naked prey soundtrack - a weirdo early 60s mondo film.

does anyone have any solid info on paul parrish?

i also bought this copy of HARMONIUM. i havent played yet becuase I've got the fear i am turning prog-head. But balanced it out iwth the vanessa paradis album because she dose a great jane birkin version of 'i'm waiting for my man'

doomie x, Tuesday, 15 March 2005 21:30 (twenty-one years ago)

never heard of m frog - but weirdly enough i bought todd rundgren's runt this weekend in the same thrift batch of harmonium, vanessa paradis and this harvert era jon lord orchestra album with a severely disturbing gay cover...

doomei x, Tuesday, 15 March 2005 21:35 (twenty-one years ago)

scarily enough i also bought a huge fat anthology of early dr strange comics. i am reliving 1970, over and over again, it seems.

doomie x, Tuesday, 15 March 2005 21:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Tony Washington, yeah, that's the Dynamic Superiors' vocalist, think he later rec. solo too? Luther Vandross had a gay image (working a lot with mid-70s Bowie, duh, and co-writing some of his hits)(also had his own group, Luther; anybody ever heard 'em?) But I don't know that he ever bothered with coming out. Was on at least one LP by Change ("New and true and gay," Xgau quoted from their press release), but think that was early 80s, and I didn't like it as wel as he did. Sylvester did some good disco, like "You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real), and is on soundtrack of the great doc, Paris Is Burning..

don, Tuesday, 15 March 2005 23:26 (twenty-one years ago)

OMG, you have a Bobby Valentin album and I don't! I've just recently been discovering how great he is. (Search & see.)

RS £aRue (rockist_scientist), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 23:39 (twenty-one years ago)

it's a great record. plus, it was sealed, so it sounds fabulous. if yoo r into the vinyl thing. (fania stuff always sounded good to me.)

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 15 March 2005 23:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I bet Chino in Funk-0-Mart would give his left ear for that.
