"t-shirts from The Thrills"

is that an ironic t-shirt?

nathalie barefoot in the head (stevie nixed), Thursday, 17 March 2005 10:51 (twenty-one years ago)

If it is, it is a form of irony which I fail to comprehend.

what's the fuss? capitalist enterprise be marketing.

N_RQ, Thursday, 17 March 2005 12:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I realise that but you would have thought that they would have made some kind of effort to keep the DFA stuff fairly separate from the rest of their roster. If only to try to maintian the illusion of credibility and independence.

hmmm (hmmm), Thursday, 17 March 2005 12:56 (twenty-one years ago)

David Bowie, Blondie and Duran Duran - fucking hell - move ON, people.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Thursday, 17 March 2005 12:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, to be able to fill a boxset, you need to have been in the biz for sometime...

That one Columbine shooter asks "Do you believe in God?"

David Allen (David Allen), Thursday, 17 March 2005 14:35 (twenty-one years ago)

It's something like 'Which one of these was not a member of the beatles? - John, Paul or Bob.

hmmm (hmmm), Thursday, 17 March 2005 14:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Bob

sinkhole, Thursday, 17 March 2005 15:10 (twenty-one years ago)

No, it was John Paul.

Right, or put it next to other things in their own roster in order to try to get DFA-buying hipsters to buy other things! I, for one, am wondering who this Bowie fellow is and whether his music sounds anything like the DFA!

I see what you're saying. My point was that there is a much less ignorant line to be drawn which actually acknowledges what people who like DFA stuff might also like. It's so indiscriminate and just treats people puchasers of whatever product they happen to have as flavour of the month. As ever, a major seems neither to care about or in any way understand why people like music and how they deal with it. That's what I hate about this.

hmmm (hmmm), Thursday, 17 March 2005 15:59 (twenty-one years ago)

people as purchasers.

THEY TOTALLY SOLD OUT D00DZ

All three are great. I see nothing wrong with lusting after a box set from these acts. (Granted, the Duran Duran box set would probably be a 10 song cd and shoebox of glossy 8x10s, but still...makes for interesting wallpaper.)

wtf LCD is about how music culture is stagnant, impotent and bullshit! Don't complain when they rub your face in it!

I don't think this has been mentioned on ILX yet, but some interesting news went up on the DFA site a few days ago:

Black Dice are currently in Australia recording their 3rd LP for DFA.The Juan Maclean album has been completed and is slated to drop in June. In May, the debut single will be released, entitled "Tito's Way", featuring Nancy Whang on vocals.Delia and Gavin are currently finishing their debut LP, to consist of 4 songs, and is tentatively titled Days of Mars. DFA/EMI are planning a September release. They will also have a new Black Leotard Front 12" single out before year's end,"Hey Coach".

The NIN remix is a bit startling (I wish them the best of luck, they'll probably need it), but a Delia & Gavin album and another BLF single? Hot damn.

Telephonething, Thursday, 17 March 2005 23:41 (twenty-one years ago)

i was pretty disappointed with the BLF single, i think my expectations may have been too high. the french vocals at the start are really really irritating.

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Thursday, 17 March 2005 23:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Let's start a rumour that 'Thrills' is about how much James Murphy likes The Thrills.

Flyboy (Flyboy), Thursday, 17 March 2005 23:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I think they're hot, in a cartoony Southern belle way. MARE-SEE BOO-COO!

Quit glaring at Ian Riese-Moraine! He's mentally fraught! (Eastern Mantra), Friday, 18 March 2005 00:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes. Something about the heavy American accent on "Comment allez-vous" is hell of sexy.
