POV: Albums Released on Factory

I recently discovered that the vast majority the albums I love are on either 4AD or Factory, and there are threads-o-plenty of 4AD, but I need to fill out my Factory collection. I've been listening to the Stockholm Monsters "Alma Mater" like it was my job, but what else do you guys dig? Learn me good.

(Again, ONLY five. I know some of you rugged iconoclasts like to list, like thirteen.)

On my tombstone, it will say: "4AD or Factory" I honestly feel quite fortunate that I have been given such short one-word names to encapsulate all the deepest recesses of my musical heart.

But I'm still not sold on Stockholm Monsters aside from the Kan Kill! 12". The one with How Corrupt is Rough Trade? on the other side.

5 albums released on factory. I'm gonna leave Joy Division out, just because.

1. New Order - Movement
2. Crispy Ambulance - The Plateau Phase
3. A Certain Ratio - Force
4. Section 25 - Key of Dreams
5. Northside - Chicken Rhythms

I will leave out New Order AND JD.

1. Stockholm Monsters - Alma Mater (FAC80)
2. The Durutti Colum - Without Mercy (FAC84)
3. Section 25 - From The Hip (FAC90)
4. ACR - To Each (FAC35)
5. Swamp Children - So Hot (FAC70)

Hey I had to give up Durutti Column's Another Setting, Thick Pigeon Too Crazy Cowboys AND the first Happy Mondays album. It wasn't pretty.

Bimble... (Bimble...), Saturday, 19 March 2005 10:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I dithered over Cath Carroll's 'England Made Me', the first Anna Domino album, The Graveyard and The Ballroom, and the first Mondays recd.

excluding JD/NO:

1. palatine (cheating hugely, i know ... but hey, it is an album and it was released on factory)
2. section 25: from the hip
3. electronic: electronic
4. the durutti column: the guitar and other machines
5. happy mondays: live (pisses on the studio albums from a great height, IMHO, especially the astonishing version of WFL)

Fudge, I can't do this. I just can't.

Quit glaring at Ian Riese-Moraine! He's mentally fraught! (Eastern Mantra), Saturday, 19 March 2005 15:12 (twenty-one years ago)

alternative:

1. palatine one
2. palatine two
3. palatine three
4. palatine four
5. section 25: from the hip

heh.

Gasp! *gobsmacked expression, wide eyed*

Fiendish you CHEATER!

Why didn't more people answer? I thought this thread would take off. argh. i searched for past threads and everything. ah well...

poortheatre (poortheatre), Sunday, 20 March 2005 03:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Joy Division, Unknown Pleasures
A Certain Ratio, Sextet
Section 25, From the Hip
The Durutti Column, Vini Reilly
New Order, Technique

No real obscurities, mostly because I'm not familiar with them yet. Going to give Stockholm Monsters a whirl next. The Factory Benelux records from Antena and The Names almost squeaked on, though.

hahaha. Actually I was originally going to say that you might want to allow the few Factory heads here the privilege of naming more than 5 because otherwise you wouldn't get much of a response!

Fudge, I can't do this. I just can't.

Come on Ian, just do the best you can. Name as many as you like.

Bimble... (Bimble...), Sunday, 20 March 2005 06:52 (twenty-one years ago)

5 DVD-Rs with everything on it. Fun!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 20 March 2005 07:06 (twenty-one years ago)

That's right!
*raises fist in the air, ridiculously self-righteous, like U2*

DOWN with POV's POX's & POO!

We might as well have a Pick Only One - The Durutti Column. I mean, for god's sake how absurd is that? People can't survive on a crumb of bread a day.

Next thread will be: Name your favorite 3 seconds of Joy Division. People will begin making compilations of 3 second snatches of several different artists. Any DJ that goes over 3 seconds per track will be ostracized.
