I like some Sebadoh stuff. I know a lot of folks who are hardcore fans seem to think Jason Lowenstein is the weakest link. I think the song "Careful" is amazing. And Lou's bass playing on that one was deluxe as always.

uhh, the hardcore fans seem to think loewenstein is the strongest link.

I don't know too much, but:

10. Seb - "Violent Execution"
9. DJ - "Feel the Pain"
8. DJ - "Raisans"
7. Seb - "Oceans'
6. DJ - "The Wagon"
5. Seb - "Magnet's Coil"
4. Seb - "The Freed Pig"
3. DJ - "Thumb"
2. DJ - "Freak Scene"
1. Folk - "Natural One"

hm, suppose I probably shouldn't have included non-Barlow DJ in that. Oh well.

I haven't been psyched for Sebadoh in years but "Careful" is one of my fave songs, and I'm usually not a big Jason fan.

I was just thinking of how great "Scars Four Eyes" is.

Johnny Badlees (crispssssss), Saturday, 19 March 2005 23:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, if Jason's not present, it's usually an indicator of poor material.

Oh, and on III, I believe it is, there's an instrumental song. #7 I think. Love that one.

i was tempted to add 'Home' off the new record because it is wonderful, but it's a bit early to say for sure. Jason and Lou compliment each other well, but as a songwriter Jason doesn't come within touching distance.

uhh, the hardcore fans seem to think loewenstein is the strongest link.

This might be a generational thing. Maybe many of the earlier 'hardcore fans' have moved on, but the previous sentiment was common circa 1991: Barlow was the pop guy, Gaffney was the kerrazy guy, and Jason, the newcomer, was the not-that-distinctive-but-let's-be-patient guy. Only since Bakesale does the opposite seem tenable, no?

but--"happily divided" is one of the best songs on bubble and scrape!

cutty (mcutt), Sunday, 20 March 2005 03:13 (twenty-one years ago)

True. And he certainly saves Bakesale and that one after that. It's likely I need to re-listen really... : )
