Other?

Sorry, cheap shot.

I don't read much criticism, generally. But I've enjoyed bits of http://www.perfectsoundforever.com/ and http://www.popmatters.com.

stylus seconded. playlouder is OK but has far less to read.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Sunday, 20 March 2005 20:31 (twenty-one years ago)

sorry - i just looked around on this board and realized there's about 100 pitchfork and other related posts...new to this site, wasn't trying to rehash an old topic

oh just read the new posts - thanks

I greatly enjoy PlayLouder and Popjustice. Very funny stuff there. Pitchfork could use a lot more humor.

I can't stand Popmatters.

Seems like there should be a sticky thread here for webzine recommendations.

Indieworkshop.com has great taste and covers a lot of the bands that I always wish got more press (Dean Roberts, Kayo Dot, Cerberus Shoal - hey cool, they just reviewed Nils Okland).

Stylus is great. I don't think people appreciate how extreme it gets, from Matt Weiner's thorough, well-argued Jimmy Webb feature to Dom Passantino's "someone should rape Tori Amos again" record review.

If you don't read Pitchfork but you like some of the writers, some of them are starting blogs - and serious ones, not "Boy, I hate laundry day" type things - like Nick Sylvester's fantastic Riff Central, or William Bowers' Puritan Blister.

Not that I know of. He publishes all over the place though, he's been in Seattle Weekly and some other papers.

He's also been spending a lot of time on his own music ...

As far as online music magazines, I check Junkmedia regularly, I like Perfect Sound Forever. Also Mundane Sounds, though it isnt updated as often. And Sponic (http://www.sponiczine.com) though it's updated even less often. And though it's maybe out of line I can't help mention my own, Erasing Clouds (http://www.erasingclouds.com)

tinymixtapes is too 'jokey' for me.

Since when has "jokey" been a synonym for "utterly fucking hopeless"?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 21 March 2005 22:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Alternative to pitchfork?
