Bob Holness's Blockbusters

1987, or thereabouts, and one of the contestants on the BBC's Blockbusters was asked to give the name of his indie band. My memory of what the name was is patchy, but I do recall that it was the longest name for a band I'd ever heard, and I quite expected to hear more about them in the press on that basis alone. The first part of the name was something like, "Let's go into town ... " The last part was definitely (I think) "... and maybe have a McDonalds on the way". Did anyone here catch the show and / or the band's name?

RIP Bob. Cue Stuart Maconie and his "I started the rumour that Bob Holness played the sax break on 'Baker Street' by Gerry Rafferty" story... again.

That's not even the best urban myth about Bob Holness. I spent years believing that he was the father of Nik Fiend from Alien Sex Fiend and the lead singer of Toto Coelo of I Eat Cannibals fame.

And he actually was the first person to play James Bond (albeit in a BBC Radio 4 play).

Sorry John but

In 1954 CBS paid Ian Fleming $1,000 ($8,171 in 2012 dollars[85]) to adapt his novel Casino Royale into a one-hour television adventure as part of its Climax! series.[86] The episode aired live on 21 October 1954 and starred Barry Nelson as "Card Sense" James 'Jimmy' Bond and Peter Lorre as Le Chiffre.

My thinking on Bob Holness is so fucked up.

Sorry Bob.

piscesx, Saturday, 7 January 2012 13:02 (fourteen years ago)

I'm not even sure if he was Nik Fiend's dad either.
