I heard nothing resembling a moment on the self-titled Kid Rock album. I've heard three tracks from Beck's new one and two of them have catchy pleasant grooves. The "Clap Hands" b-side had a nice beat too. Kid Rock plods and his tired tropes are way more repugnant. Neither of them have anything to say and while critics overrate Beck more than Kid Rock, the last thing that matters when I listen to things on my stereo is what other people think. Both are neglible artists at this point and one is a lot more obnoxious about it on disc, and that's Kid Rock.

(x-post)I dunno, Chuck. You point out that he quotes and references people (not necessarily a moment), sounds like Humble Pie (not necessarily a moment) and calling himself black doesn't make up for being a Kenny Wayne Shepherd shuffle. I missed the rap. Maybe that was a moment, though when I went back and read the lyrics to all of the tracks a year after it came out none made me laugh. I have to admit Xgau's review resonates a lot deeper, even if he didn't acknowledge all the flashbacks by name:
Turned into Ted Nugent pretty quick, didn't he? Only who told him that meant not being funny? Like a clown who longs to play Hamlet, the fake pimp who got lucky is out of his depth in swamp-rock--especially with this stiff of a drummer, her p.c. points notwithstanding

This is true, though not saying much, given that Sea Change had maybe one memorable track. And on Guero the vocals are indeed sound asleep.
> this stiff of a drummer<
This is ridiculously wrong, and I told Bob so.
Ted Nugent was pretty hilarious, actually.
And the last DBTs album dragged *way* more than the last Kid Rock one.

I could see an argument for "dragged more" thanks to the Buford Pusser Trilogy (which I ignore), but the word way (let alone the bracketing asterisks) is a stretch.
