Actually, it's just because of these photos. I'm going crazy with baby-ruled cabin fever. SOMEBODY PLEASE COME AND KILL ME!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 17:04 (twenty-one years ago)

KISS, of course!

Eisbär (llamasfur), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 17:08 (twenty-one years ago)

'gold' vs 'double platinum'

dave q (listerine), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 17:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh bloody...I'd have to choose Kiss, sadly.

What we want? Sex with T.V. stars! What you want? Ian Riese-Moraine! (Eastern Ma, Wednesday, 23 March 2005 17:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually - Kiss in suits gave me an idea - why not have it both ways and go with J-rocker new romantics "Glay"?

jdw (jdw), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 17:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Kiss, easily. The '80s produced few songs I hate as much as "True".

Oh, and they both had vaguely Nazi-derived bandnames.

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 18:33 (twenty-one years ago)

but how is "knights in satan's service" nazi-inspired?

Zack Richardson (teenagequiet), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 18:39 (twenty-one years ago)

As much as I love KISS, I love "True" and "Gold" very much. It's a tough one, but I'm going to give it to Spandau Ballet.

Ace had a bit of a Nazi fixation (he designed the logo).

Kiss, mainly because of "Having Fun With Stanley On Stage"

peepee (peepee), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 20:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Spandau Ballet. But only for 'Journeys to Glory', 'Chant No. 1' and the crazy ambient side of that other record I've forgotten. Without these absurdist slices of Roman homoerotic technopop, fluked-it funk and reach-for-Eno hyperambition, Kiss wins hands down.

By the way 'Chant No. 1' is definitive proof that the funk can be faked.

"Gold" on Black Books was the uber-classic!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 20:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Once again, this thread wasn't really meant to be taken seriously. It was just about the similarity of the pictures.

Despite the fact that they're really apples and oranges (Spandau Ballet played saccharine New Romantic pop with a patina of plastic soul & faux-funk, Kiss played grease-paint smeared proto-metal iced with pyrotechnic theatrics), the fact remains that KISS CRUSHES SPANDAU BALLET!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 20:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Damn it. I want this Having Fun With Stanely On Stage disc! I just googled it, but my search just lead me back to ILM.

darin (darin), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 23:24 (twenty-one years ago)

TS in the pseudo-disco smackdown:

"chant no. 1 (i don't need this pressure on)" vs. "i was made for lovin' you"

KISS wins here, too!

Eisbär (llamasfur), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 23:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Why isn't anybody sampling KISS, and where the hell can I get "fun with stanley"???!

Bobby Peru (Bobby Peru), Thursday, 24 March 2005 00:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Why isn't anybody sampling KISS

Because Gene will find you and personally kick your ass.

Ferlin Husky (noodle vague), Thursday, 24 March 2005 00:47 (twenty-one years ago)

paul stanley re accusations of nazism: "that's pretty interesting, for a bunch of jews from brooklyn."

Eisbär (llamasfur), Thursday, 24 March 2005 00:51 (twenty-one years ago)

from robert christgau's review of dressed to kill:

"You know damn well that if they didn't have both eyes on maximum commerciality they'd call themselves Blow Job."

Eisbär (llamasfur), Thursday, 24 March 2005 00:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Gary Kemp looks like he would totally BTK your ass

Morley Timmons (Donna Brown), Thursday, 24 March 2005 04:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Why isn't anybody sampling KISS
Because what Lars is to Metallica, Gene is to KISS to the power of TEN. Besides, "I Was Made For Loving You" is close enough to a club remix anyway. I say PRAISE THE LORD there are no samples.
