C/D: Queen- "The Game"

Queen leaves Roy Thomas Baker, hooks up with ELO producer Mack and ushers in the '80s with this release. "Crazy Little Thing" and "Another One Bites The Dust" obviously stand tall to time as the monster singles they are. But what about the rest of it? Me, I call it easily a "C" for content- Queen were masters IMO of the "album track", and "Game" was one of their best examples. Rock Radio went like 6 or 7 cuts deep on this one. "Save Me", "Rock It", "Need Your Loving Tonight", "Dragon Attack" were all on-point.

Or call it classic for the cleverness of Queen as they commenced the record with that faded-in synth blast that would leave behind their "no synthesizer" war-cry they carried through the '70s. Or just forget the tunes.. how bout that shiny album cover??

Absolute fucking classic, probably my favorite Queen album. Dragon Attack is tip-top, Save Me is one of my favorite ballad-rockers, and its tough to put down Another One Bites the Dust.

I am sorry. I don't really like this album. "Play The Game" and "Save Me" are great songs, but overall, the album is pretty much disappointing. Lacks everything that was great about them in the mid 70s and also later in the 80s/90s.

"Another One Bites The Dust" is of course the worst piece of worthless rubbish they ever did. Tuneless and godawful!!

better than Jazz. Not as good as Hot Space (save "Another One Bites The Dust").

worse than "Body Language," Geir?

Yes, worse than "Body Language" because "Body Language" does at least have some interesting synth sounds if nothing else.

It's on a mixtape of vinyl I tossed along with four songs from Loverboy, three from Quarterflash, two from Upstairs At Eric's, five from Trans and three from The Catherine Wheel.
