So...who picked up the Dinosaur Jr. reissues?

I ordered them, but they just shipped today, meaning I won't get them for another week or so goddammit.

How do they sound? How are the bonus tracks? It's odd that I can't find any reviews of them, between forums and review sites.

Are they out today?? I might have to go down to Amoeba and see Mascis cleaned up "Little Fury Things".

I don't think the bonus material is anything to get excited about. It's just a couple of live tracks and maybe a video, right? Anyway, I ordered mine last week and should expect them this week sometime.

I held all three of them in my hand, but practiced Brahmacharya and thus maintained my sexual economy.

(I'll probably order them next week. I even sold my copy of You're Living All Over Me two months ago in anticipation-- you know, while the non-illuminati still thought it was rare mwhahaha.)

I got'em. They sound really great, actually. The bonuses are negligible, and the altered tracklistings inscrutable, but as they did a very good job. YLAOM in particular sounds great - that unholy racket is still in place, it's just got more presence and definition now...Lou's bass sounds waaaaay more ass-kicking.

This is *great* news!

the SST cd of YLAOM has to be one of the worst sounding cd's I've ever heard (bad mastering maybe?) so I'm looking forward to the reissue. I might get one of the other 2 that I don't already have first, though.

Does BUG have the LOOOOOOOOOOOOONG version of sludgefeast?

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 24 March 2005 19:03 (twenty-one years ago)

just got the Bug and YLAOM reissues.

never owned bug before and it's pretty cool so far though it's weird hearing 'new' dino stuff after so much time obsessing over YLAOM, green mind and Where you been.

YLAOM sounds really nice (if that's a discription you could use for this record). Not entirely sure about 'Just Like Heaven' at the end though. Threw me on the first listen.

It sounds much better... i spoke to mascis about the original cds when researching the mojo feature that'll run next month, and he said that the first dinosaur album should never have been available on cd. as for ylaom, i asked him about the 2-second gap between 'kracked' and 'sludgefeast' (the chiefest of all the glitches on the CD), and he said he asked the masterig guy why it was there, and the guy said "so they can put the number in there", like there needed to be a 2-second gap for it to show up as a different track on the CD.

He didn't want it on CD or Homestead put it out on CD without permission?

Haha, tacking the sunny b-side "Keep The Glove" onto Bug right after the original grotesque ending of "Don't" seems, erm, interesting.

Conversely, the Frampton cover from "Little Fury Things", tacked for some time onto YLAOM, has been cast into oblivion with the now orphaned Just Like Heaven b-sides, is that correct???

I rather like the way the SST YLAOM sounds. I also like the way the SST Husker Du records sound (except Flip Your Wig.)
