or so the napter-era mp3 tag claims. it's slightly mediocre. kinda spoken wordy punctuated by faux-rootsy guitar and drum hits; lilting chorus -- definitely sounds like (young) SM tho! same w/ the guitar playing. then it cuts out at 1:49 right when it speeds up. anyone ever heard of this?

It's legit. Another song of theirs that was around on Napster, Cadillac Darling, was played briefly at a Pavement concert sometime in 1994 (I don't recall which one exactly, I think at Cat's Cradle) (no, I just looked it up, 9/15/94 late show@Palace, Hollywood CA)

it sounds legit. I remember seeing Lake Speed once or twice when I lived in Charlottesville, Virginia in the late eighties. What an awful damned group they were. Not Ectoslavia dull and formless but terrible all the same. I seem to remember Steve playing in another band briefly after LS. They painted themselves dayglo and did ironic Coltrane covers I believe opening for the pre-Wingtip Slot band, Empty Box at a house party.

My mp3 goes to about 2:25 and has the full ending of the song, by the way.

Rob Chamberlain was the lanky, gothy looking dude who ended up working at Strand Books in the early 90s. He was the first bassist of Pavement on their first tour.
