"B.Y.O.B.": (somewhat lackluster rip, but it gives you an idea)
http://s37.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=22D26CGV6IKT71M0NDW6BSAFMK

I suspect they're saving the melodic stuff for the album, 'cause this and "Cigaro" are spastic as ever.

Simon H. (Simon H.), Thursday, 24 March 2005 17:39 (twenty-one years ago)

ah shit, I wish I was home to DL that, the one time I heard it I was pretty excited

Al (sitcom), Thursday, 24 March 2005 18:03 (twenty-one years ago)

also if I recall it was pretty melodic (although also spastic -- the two are not mutually exclusive)

Al (sitcom), Thursday, 24 March 2005 18:04 (twenty-one years ago)

haha whoa

Blossom in Paris (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 24 March 2005 23:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I asked on the other thread as well, but: what Eighties R&B song does that "Everybody's going to the party / Have a real good time" line in "BYOB" remind me of?

I saw the video for "B.Y.O.B." this morning while getting a sandwich. When did lead dude turn into Joey Belladonna looks wise?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 29 April 2005 01:58 (twenty-one years ago)

This album was the worst cover I've seen in fucking years.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 29 April 2005 01:59 (twenty-one years ago)

They're playing this show in the UK with Slayer and Slipknot, which potentially could be the greatest lineup ever.

billstevejim, Friday, 29 April 2005 02:04 (twenty-one years ago)

what Eighties R&B song does that "Everybody's going to the party / Have a real good time" line in "BYOB" remind me of?

haha yeah it sounds like Prince or something.

This song might easily be as good as anything on Toxicity, which says something. It seems to go further than those songs, in terms of how much it packs into 4:01. "Cigaro" is pretty good too. Has anyone heard the album?

Sundar (sundar), Friday, 29 April 2005 02:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I just love the fact that they're putting tix for this show on sale 2 days before the show! All ages show, one ticket limit per customer, on sale ONLY at the venue -- which has a max capacity of like 1000. I need to go to this.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Friday, 29 April 2005 02:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I was disappointed to find out that "Cigaro" was the B-Side -- I think it's a much better song. But I guess it doesn't really matter, so if BYOB wins them greater success, then so be it.

Hurting (Hurting), Friday, 29 April 2005 02:29 (twenty-one years ago)

"Cigaro" is a B-SIDE???!?!

Overexposure is ruining "B.Y.O.B." for me. I really need to stop listening to the radio.

billstevejim (billstevejim), Friday, 29 April 2005 02:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Um, I thought it was, but I can't find the CD-single on Amazon. Maybe they pulled it.

Hurting (Hurting), Friday, 29 April 2005 02:37 (twenty-one years ago)

It's possible that it's being included on their 2nd 2005 album instead.

billstevejim (billstevejim), Friday, 29 April 2005 02:38 (twenty-one years ago)

No, sorry, it's on the album.

Wow, I'm glad I decided against queuing up for the SOAD thing ..

Stormy Davis (diamond), Monday, 2 May 2005 02:36 (twenty-one years ago)

"This Cocaine Makes Me Feel Like I’m On This Song" = song title of the year

Al (sitcom), Monday, 2 May 2005 04:13 (twenty-one years ago)

So "B.Y.O.B." has what, five different riffs? And at least three of them are good ones! I don't like the "chorus" much, but the parts where they let the guitar player scream along with Serj are great. Serj needs to bring his Afro from the first album back, though; he looks too much like a clean-shaven Frank Zappa at present.

pdf (Phil Freeman), Monday, 2 May 2005 10:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Leak up in a minute or two.

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 00:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I am not a fan of B.Y.O.B

miccio (miccio), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 00:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Here we go:

http://s38.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1VGXJX2K7ZZFO10RLE2ZESV0TA

Listening to it now, on the 5th track.. hmmm.. I like it, but it's lacking something... not as quirky perhaps? I dunno.

And yeah miccio, I don't really like BYOB much.

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 00:22 (twenty-one years ago)

"This Cocaine Makes me Feel Like I'm This Song" is awesome.

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 00:27 (twenty-one years ago)

"Violent Pornography" is even better!

"It's the violent pornographt/ choking chicks and sodomy"

haha.

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 00:29 (twenty-one years ago)

i guess i'll put this on my iPod as soon as i'm done listening to "isn't anything"

Aerodynamic (Aerodynamic), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 01:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanks for the file, brainwasher! but I can't seem to open it on the ol' ibook - "format error"

Simon H. (Simon H.), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 01:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah, to unzip it you'll need the program WinRAR. You should be album to find it for free download..

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 01:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Cigaro could be the best song of the year

Aerodynamic (Aerodynamic), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 01:58 (twenty-one years ago)

"This Cocaine Makes Me Feel Like I’m On This Song"

Yes it does! Oh, how I love these guys. "BYOB" isn't their best but it's really grown on me. I think it's the "lalalalala's" and the way he screams "freedom" that send it right over the top. Oh, and the fact that I keep hearing "Pentagon" when he says "lies from the tablecloth."

daria g (daria g), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 02:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmm, this version of BYOB cuts off the into...good news if you ask me. that grunt was obnoxious.

Simon H. (Simon H.), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 02:52 (twenty-one years ago)

except it's censored! goddamn "webrip". oh well, soad is soad.

Simon H. (Simon H.), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 02:54 (twenty-one years ago)

"Revenga" is nice, very Scandinavian in parts.

Simon H. (Simon H.), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 02:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow, those two closing tracks are...something. "all you maggot-smoking fags on sunset avenue..."

Simon H. (Simon H.), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 03:24 (twenty-one years ago)

er, I suppose that's "maggots smoking fags". whee! talking to myself.

Simon H. (Simon H.), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 03:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought this would be rubbish.

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 16:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmmm...it doesn't break the general rule that double albums are always ultimately best as single ones ("Old School Hollywood", "Lost in Hollywood" and maybe "Violent Pornography" should be gone) but it's another slab of nicely bizarre work from the boys - I especially like the klezmer influence on "Radio/Video" (almost certainly the next single) and the mini-Opeth-with-handclaps "Question!".

Simon H. (Simon H.), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 20:19 (twenty-one years ago)

HOW GOOD IS THIS ALBUM

charleston charge (chaki), Wednesday, 4 May 2005 20:20 (twenty-one years ago)

HEY MAN! LOOK AT ME ROCKIN' OUT!

This disc really is fantastic.

ZionTrain, Thursday, 5 May 2005 18:52 (twenty-one years ago)

So question: is it gonna be a double album, or will Hypnotize come out separately later this year?

alex in montreal (alex in montreal), Friday, 6 May 2005 12:00 (twenty-one years ago)

"Hypnotize" comes out later, in "six months". We'll just see about that. It is doomed to have similar cover art.

Simon H. (Simon H.), Friday, 6 May 2005 12:14 (twenty-one years ago)

five years pass...

I really love SoaD. That is all.

ENBB, Monday, 14 March 2011 23:58 (fifteen years ago)

ditto

some dude, Tuesday, 15 March 2011 13:30 (fifteen years ago)

was flipping through the iPod the other day and put on the title track of Hypnotize and goddamn that is a perfect song

some dude, Tuesday, 15 March 2011 13:30 (fifteen years ago)

They're one of those bands that I always assumed I'd not like, then caught them on SNL and was really surprised. I liked Mezmerize a lot at the time...had kind of forgotten about it lately, so happy to have this thread revive.

dlp9001, Tuesday, 15 March 2011 14:22 (fifteen years ago)

i like the first album, Toxicity kinda-sorta? havent heard the other stuff. how is it compared to the first two? curious if they kept up the quality or turned to shit

ilxor you've listened to one odd future album once (ilxor), Tuesday, 15 March 2011 14:38 (fifteen years ago)

imo the last 2 totally stand up with the earlier stuff, Mezmerize more than Hypnotize.

some dude, Tuesday, 15 March 2011 14:43 (fifteen years ago)
