One of these is considered the last charting instrumental in the U.S. pop charts.

Well, if you add Jan Hammer's "Miami Vice Theme", I guess.

Axel F is classic. Didn't I hear a UKG tune sampling it a couple of years ago?

OTOH Yello are up there in my pantheon of true greats. "Oh Yeah", is fun, but it's not a stand-out from the rest of the cannon. Aaargh! This suddenly makes me want to run off and play them right now!

Dude I had Axl F in SID format on my C64. Except it was two SID files that you had to play at the same time to hear the full thing! Like fucking Zaireeka!

dave OTM, esp in "Valley Girl" and "Pee Wee"

It's hard to remember how fantastic and odd "Oh Yeah" was when it was first released now that it's been beaten into the ground as a soundtrack staple, sports anthem and commercial background music. I never had much use for "Axel F" though.

We actually needed 2 computers to do it too, I think! xxpost

"Oh Yeah" rules because it's the basis for 'minus orange' AND because it's the music Gran Turismo 4 plays when you fail a license attempt. LAffo.

nine years pass...

faltermeyer's soundtrack to the bruce willis/tracy morgan movie "Cop Out!" is a nice throwback to 80s soundtracks and on spotify

"Oh Yeah" classic as an entry point into further Yello. Not even going to bother with the other track.

'Axel F'.

You’re being too simplistic and you’re insulting my poor heart (Turrican), Monday, 9 February 2015 22:49 (eleven years ago)

Both are really good (especially the extended 12" mixes of them), but "Oh Yeah" is hardly the best Yello tune.

crazy frog ruined axel f.

oi listen mate, shut up (dog latin), Tuesday, 10 February 2015 11:17 (eleven years ago)

Had never seen the video for Oh Yeah until just recently. Also Da Da Da, similar "token weird track" in any hour of late 80s progressive rock radio.

"oh yeah". don't feel any need to caveat it as lesser than "bostich" or whatever, just a great, fun, pointedly ridiculous song.

two years pass...

Describing the composition of "Oh Yeah," Blank said, "First I did the music and then I invited Dieter to sing along, and he came up with some lines which I thought, 'no Dieter, it's too complicated, we don't need that many lyrics'. I had the idea of just this guy, a fat little monster sits there very relaxed and says, "Oh yeah, oh yeah".
