Geeky Mac music question

I know there is a function on iTunes that lets you change the volume of tracks, but is there an option to have it be binding, so that when you burn a playlist, the volume changes remain intact? Or would that have to involve using a seperate program?

I've run into this same problem. I've used iTunes built-in "sound check" function and the iVolume program separately, and neither one seem to work for me. I still get some tracks quieter than others, whether I'm playing them back or burning them to a disc.

But it is binding - if you burn a CD the volume adjustment applies. Unfortunately, it seems to be more radical than it sounds when played through iTunes - I've ruined a few mix CD-Rs with adjusted tracks coming out far too loud or quiet.

Oh - I've just remembered. I think there's some check box in Settings that turns this on and off.

I never use sound check.

sound check sucks. it fails miserably to work. it's just shit.

however, if you click here you'll find a script called iVolume, which allows you to bulk-adjust the volume of tracks. and, weirdly, i've had good results burning CDs from playlists adjusted this way. i didn't think volume adjustments would last the burning process, if you see what i mean, but it seems to work. YMMV, of course, but it's worth a try. i was using an iMac with a LaCie 32x burner.

Yeah, I was just talking about manual adjustments.

i've heard people moan about how manual (or iVolume - it's the same thing in the end) adjustments don't transfer to CD, but i've always found that they do. perhaps it depends on the burner/iTunes version/phase of the moon.

still: sound check is teh sux0r.

I have an old 600Mhz eMac with iTunes 4 and some kind of internal DVD/CD writing 'superdrive' provided by Pioneer. I only burn when it's a gibbous moon. It always worked for me.
