If used, several Wilson Pickett singles.

If new, jeez I dunno. Maybe Simple Minds or U2.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Friday, 25 March 2005 16:46 (twenty-one years ago)

The Wedding Present - "Sucker". Bought from David Gedge himself at a WP gig in '95.

Thanks Tim. Yeah I was thinking NEW. But ILM do your thing as you wish.

The last one I bought "new" was the theme from "The Greatest American Hero." I was 8. The last one I bought used was Barbara Streisand's "Woman in Love."

Joseph McCombs (Joseph McCombs), Friday, 25 March 2005 21:05 (twenty-one years ago)

The Destroyer/Black Mountain split on Spirit of Orr...

Recently I got a 45 of The Hollies' "The Air That I Breathe" - the b-side was "No More Riders" - anyways, I lent it to a friend, and it cracked, and now I really, really need a copy of that song, but it's not on any albums, and I even downloaded some absurd torrent of 14 Hollies releases with nary a trace...

Jay Watts III, Friday, 25 March 2005 22:35 (twenty-one years ago)

"Baby Likes to Holler" by blood on the wall
it's super.
actually, Cass McCombs' "I Can not Lie" may have been after that.

Ian John50n (orion), Saturday, 26 March 2005 01:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Via ebay, I bought the 7" of "It's You, Only You (Mein Schmerze) by a Dutch band called The Meteors (not the British Psychobilly band). The song in question was later covered brilliantly by Lene Lovich, but I've never heard the original....and....er...still haven't, as I don't own a turntable.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 26 March 2005 01:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Hoodoo Gurus, "Bittersweet". yummmm

Morley Timmons (Donna Brown), Saturday, 26 March 2005 01:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I just bought this (still available from fusetronsound.com):

Artist:SILVER, THE
Title: Do You Wanna Dance b/w Popper
Format: 7"
Label: Pop Con
Country: USA
Price: $6.50

"Fan Club reissue of Finnish super-rarity that Kugelberg raved about on his "DIY" list (It ranked # 9) in Ugly Things.  Originally released in 1980 in an edition of maybe 100 copies, the A-side is a primitive, some would say inept, take on Bobby Freemans "Do You Wanna Dance" that must be heard to be believed.  Chuck Warner said it left every teen incompetent from Tampax to Shonen Knife in its dust.  And the B-side was astounding Suicide-style noise as imagined by 12 year olds. Somewhere, Austin Wiggins is clapping in his grave.  Numbered edition of 500 copies with insert and originally pressed to be distributed as part of a paper delivered at the Experience Music Project Pop Conference in April, 2004." - Pop Con.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Saturday, 26 March 2005 01:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Of all the ppl to NOT own a turntable - Alex? Wow!

As for me: My 45s were lifted some 20 yrs ago and I just thought that was as good a time as any to stop buying them.

jim wentworth (wench), Saturday, 26 March 2005 02:02 (twenty-one years ago)

the Goodiepal picture discs

milton parker (Jon L), Saturday, 26 March 2005 02:03 (twenty-one years ago)

A ton of them cheap from microindierecords when they were clearing out inventory. ($10 for 30 or something).

Before that:
The Donnas, "Strutter" on clear vinyl backed with Kiss, "Detroit Rock City"

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Saturday, 26 March 2005 02:04 (twenty-one years ago)

400 of them 86'd from an out of business skating rink via my local salvation army. Covers about 20 years of pop, and is 90% crap. Got the whole trunkfull for $5 because I was willing to take them all, sight unseen.

John Justen (johnjusten), Saturday, 26 March 2005 02:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Blondie, "Call Me" b/w the Giorgio Moroder instrumental version- promo from the American Gigolo soundtrack.

Telephonething, Saturday, 26 March 2005 02:27 (twenty-one years ago)

The last new 7" single I bought was the "Teenage Fanclub Have Lost It" EP (1996?).

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Saturday, 26 March 2005 02:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Probably something from 1979-1981 that didn't particularly thrill me. I'm going to guess the last one was by Punishment of Luxury. I got two of 'em by them about a year ago. Yeah that sounds right.

Do you desire a turntable, Alex? I just kinda figured you didn't want one.

Bimble... (Bimble...), Saturday, 26 March 2005 02:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Camera Obscura "Eighties Fan". About 4 years ago.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 26 March 2005 02:47 (twenty-one years ago)

It's not that I don't want a turntable -- I have more vinyl (in storage) that I know what to do with, but since my last turntable died (in the early 90's), I simply don't have room for one.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 26 March 2005 02:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Pavement, 1994 Peel Session - purchased in 1997

el maury, Saturday, 26 March 2005 02:57 (twenty-one years ago)

but since my last turntable died

*swallows hard, speechless*

I'm humbled sir, I must take off my hat here and bow. I mean...I've never personally had the traumatic experience of a turntable "dying" on me. Gosh, I can't even imagine. I'll bring flowers. When's the funeral? That's awful, man. I can't even imagine. How's the headstone coming along? Right. Right. Horrible. I know. *cries*

Bizarrely, the turntable I have now I've had since well let's see..let me think...I'm going to guess 1990. It's not one of these heavy duty impressive DJ type turntables, but somehow it survives. I haven't changed the stylus since got knows when, either.

Bimble... (Bimble...), Saturday, 26 March 2005 03:27 (twenty-one years ago)

But I don't suppose turntables and small children mix.

Bimble... (Bimble...), Saturday, 26 March 2005 03:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Love Is All - Felt Tip a few weeks ago.

svend (svend), Saturday, 26 March 2005 03:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Myonga Von Bontee (Myonga Von Bontee), Saturday, 26 March 2005 03:41 (twenty-one years ago)
