Danko Jones "Might Be The Best Band In The World"

Ok so I'm listening to this passable if excruciatingly chauvinist cock-rock band called Danko Jones (nothing like hearing a modern guy try to be a horny neanderthal) and there's sticker on the front from the NME where they say Danko Jones "might be the best band in the world."

Anybody have any idea why someone would think that? I mean the Darkness are funny and have a few huge hooks. I get that.

Canadians have lower standards.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Friday, 25 March 2005 20:16 (twenty-one years ago)

He's been saying that for over 10 years!

I don't know Canadians would rate them so highly. I thought they were big in Sweden or some such.

And there is nothing false about calling any band "might be the best band in the world." Any band might be, but it is readily apparent that most bands aren't.

He's certainly the most obnoxious filipino in rock.

Jay Watts III, Friday, 25 March 2005 22:16 (twenty-one years ago)

The other two filipinos in rock music being, of course, David Pajo from Slint and Steve Gamboa from the Nation Of Ulysses/The Makeup...

Joey Santiago, yo!

canadians who live in the small towns in which danko jones is actually popular may have lower standards

ken taylrr (ken taylrr), Saturday, 26 March 2005 03:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I haven't heard them, but they definitely have an enthusiastic fan base here in Ontario.

Danko Jones couldn't be better than the first Trooper album. Or Moxy or Max Webster. And we shan't mention BTO or April Wine. Gonna be tough to top that version of "21st Century Schizoid Man." Maybe DJ're
in there somewhere with the gravity of Teenage Head. Canada could always be expected to generate a couple bands very good at a kind of semi-civilized beer-drinker's hard rock. Harder to do these days because those bands got reps through slogging it out on hinterland tours opening for Head East, Kansas and such.

Tricky Wu struck out in the US of A and I liked their records. Hard to imagine more high energy.

I like "Lovercall."
