Simple MP3 Editors: Any Recommendations?!

I know that there are WAV editors, but are there any programs that directly allow one to fade in/out...isolate parts of mp3 files etc. directly?

Quicktime Pro will let you do basic editing (cut and paste, delete sections, but no fade-in/out) from within Quicktime Player. Plus, you get rid of that annoying message.

Mp3 Trim pricey? Free? Works fine for me though it does have a limit in that it can't deal with files greater than a certain length (8min, 11min or something like that) unless you register or some such. but, it does what you ask (unless I don't get what you mean by directly), for free.

no, you're right that it's fine for most purposes. i'm trying to extract some highlights from a 30+ minute mp3 mix. But i'll work something out.

The Acoustica MP3 Audio Mixer works wonderfully for me. And it's free. It's supposed to be a limited trial version or somesuch, I think, but I've been using the version I downloaded for about a year now.

Audacity has always worked fine for me.

For MACs, Audacity seconded.

For PCs, Sonic Foundry's SoundForge is great. It might be a little more complex than what you're looking for, but its versatility is pretty impressive. You can download a trial from their website and then do a quick Limewire/ Kazaa search for serial #s and end up with a permanent working version, or at least that's what I hear.. Not that I would know from personal experience or anything.

Audacity works with long files? I may have to check that out (split last track + hidden tracks apart, the ones that have like 7 minutes of silence inbetween that MP3 trim cannot handle). but the acoustica link leads only to this thread. you mean i gotta track this down on MY OWN?

I would also vote for Audacity.
