That thing about performing brain surgery with monkey wrenches: one of the high points of 90s rock.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Saturday, 26 March 2005 23:36 (twenty-one years ago)

spin doctors easy. great drummer.

j blount (papa la bas), Saturday, 26 March 2005 23:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Whenever I catch myself humming "Too Late for Goodbyes" I feel peaceful. When I catch myself humming "Little Miss Can't Be Wrong" I desire suicide. Thus, Julian Lennon wins.

haha thanks to chuck (and now blount) every time I hear the Spin Doctors I go "there are guys who are enjoying the drums and praising it for the drums." here come the drums! just go ahead now!

miccio (miccio), Sunday, 27 March 2005 00:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not saying the drums are bad, mind you. And the Spin Doctors over Lennon, I guess sure whatever. But I do have a hard time celebrating the bread of a shit sandwich

miccio (miccio), Sunday, 27 March 2005 00:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Oddly enough I still remember the dude's name (I had the cassette in middle school): Aaron Comess.

miccio (miccio), Sunday, 27 March 2005 00:46 (twenty-one years ago)

He has a site!

miccio (miccio), Sunday, 27 March 2005 00:47 (twenty-one years ago)

oh, btw, I didn't mean to multi-post spazz about this. I just was surprised the first thing mentioned was the drums, which has always intrigued me since Chuck brought it up awhile back.

"Valotte" weren't terrible, I suppose, but it's been all but erased by the passage of time, has it not? It anything, the poor man's more notorious for his fleeting cameo in "Leaving Las Vegas" than he is for his music.

Spin Doctors? Ugh. I suppose "Two Princes" was alright (if you mentally blocked out the lyrics). I ran into the lead singer at an Echo & the Bunnymen shot (post-Evergreen) at the Beacon Theatre not too, too long ago. I was profoundly drunk, but he ended up being an exceptionally nice gent.

Show, not shot, but it doesn't matter, really, as it was entirely unmemorable.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 27 March 2005 02:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Spin Doctors were a pretty good band in their way.

@@r0n h. z@nd3r$ (AaronHz), Sunday, 27 March 2005 02:04 (twenty-one years ago)

if you can ignore the singer.

@@r0n h. z@nd3r$ (AaronHz), Sunday, 27 March 2005 02:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Both the singer & julian lennon were a couple of princes...

Bobby Peru (Bobby Peru), Sunday, 27 March 2005 02:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Valotte is a beautiful song. Julian wins.

kyle (akmonday), Sunday, 27 March 2005 02:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Julian Lennon, easily. "Too Late For Goodbyes", "Valotte" and most of all "Saltwater". All of them great pop songs!

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Sunday, 27 March 2005 15:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I really fell in love with Valotte when it came out, so I'm gonna go with Julian. Although it's true it's kind of one of those things lost to time, I mean I can only barely remember how it goes.

Spin Doctors were silly as hell, even stupid, but they actually weren't so bad alongside most of the other crap in the charts/videos at the time. For example I'd take them over Red Hot Chili Peppers any day of the week, year, millenium, light year etc.

Classic VH-1 sure loves playing "Now You're in Heaven," which is about the worst Bowie imitation I've ever heard. I dunno. He's harmless, I guess. Spin Doctors were wildly overplayed in the early '90s while Julian has vanished ("Too Late For Goodbyes" excepted). I'll vote for Julian, um, I guess.

Alfred Soto (Alfred Soto), Sunday, 27 March 2005 18:01 (twenty-one years ago)

(Spin doctors "Two Princes" plays on radio) "Who's been messing with the radio? This isn't alternative rock. It's college rock."

Round Two! dingdingdingding...

Bobby Peru (Bobby Peru), Friday, 1 April 2005 03:39 (twenty-one years ago)

"Two Princes" is a great song.
Otherwise, Spin Doctors are an embarassment in every possible way.

So, I pick Julian Lennon.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Friday, 1 April 2005 03:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha chaki I had that quote in my head this morning when someone else mentioned the bleddy spin drs!

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 1 April 2005 04:31 (twenty-one years ago)

three years pass...

I heard Julian Lennon's "Valotte" in a grocery store the other day and I can't stop playing it now. I remember going to a birthday party as a kid and I bought this girl that single and she totally didn't appreciate it.

Beehive Reptile (Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You), Monday, 15 December 2008 12:17 (seventeen years ago)

"Too Late For Goodbyes" and "Saltwater" are better songs than "Two Princes". Otherwise neither has made much of value. Julian Lennon.

Geir Hongro, Monday, 15 December 2008 12:22 (seventeen years ago)

Just checked out "Now You're In Heaven" on You Tube and really wish I hadn't.

Beehive Reptile (Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You), Monday, 15 December 2008 12:26 (seventeen years ago)

I worked in a shitty mall record store in 199(2? 3?) and we only had 4 albums we were allowed to play. One of them was the Spin Doctors. After a while I got to like it quite a bit, in self-defense.

To this day whenever anyone says "What time is it?" I feel the urge to answer, "uh-Foah-THIR-day. It's not late. NO! NO! It's EAR-lay! uh-EAR-lay! uh-EAR-lay!"

Which even at the height of their fame caused mute incomprehension.

staggerlee, Tuesday, 16 December 2008 03:19 (seventeen years ago)

I can't stop with this song. I'm sorry, I can't stop. It fulfills every need I have right now.
