Myspace rock

It's that very specific rock sound that involves very overwrought yet very insincere vocal delivery, with a slow and shifty melodic riff cake of a rhythm section, with explosive choruses that add more icing of suck.

In brief: Music = corporate emo rock on the heavier side but vocals inspired by Queensryche

donut debonair (donut), Monday, 28 March 2005 00:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmm. I'd imagine if there really is a prevailing sound on myspace, it's probably just a reflection of the general young internet-saavy bandscape of today. If that's what you're hearing, in other words, that must just be the most popular sound among crappy bands today.

Hurting (Hurting), Monday, 28 March 2005 00:55 (twenty-one years ago)

It's essentially Guitar Center rock 2005... but erasing most of the classic rock worship.

donut debonair (donut), Monday, 28 March 2005 00:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm guessing it has a vaguely nu-metal (but watered down) sound, and possibly also a bit of "grunge is something I've heard of".

for a while there was the long, seemingly never-ending indian summer of post-grunge corporate shit rock male vocalists (all vedder imitations, no kurt imitation except for bush) that seemed to last through Staind and so on and so forth . . . and now there's this weird post-radiohead kinda bright eyes-ish ultra annoying falsetto-means-I'm-not-a-date-rapist pseudo "sensitivity" multiplied by the screamo thing going on in shitty mainstream pseudo-edgey rock bands . . . and yet it all manages to suck just as much, decade to decade. Weird, eh?

Does the singing Jamster bird count as Myspace rock?

My name is Kenny (My name is Kenny), Monday, 28 March 2005 02:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't really see what makes it "myspace rock" per se. It's the same garbage that every band at my college was making before there even was a myspace.

Hurting (Hurting), Monday, 28 March 2005 02:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I guess myspace has just brought what once would have been strictly local bands to the attention of a lot more victims.

Hurting (Hurting), Monday, 28 March 2005 02:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Drew is right on! What's next? Some sort of furthering of the glam aspect of this "new" shit, but more glittery? I hope not. Maybe more spandex? Also the only thing I can think of when I see a guy with makeup on is that he, in fact, has to put that shit on in the mirror. His dad wants to kick his ass soooo hard!

One more thing, those fourteen year olds as well as all others (fourtenn year olds) neednt be on my space nor have access to a digital camera, And look at the fucking camera!

HAHAHA! I tried looking up "Sweety Showtime" on Google to see where the annoying fucker came from (it keeps appearing on AIM and Yahoo! Mail, too, although it thankfully doesn't make its discordant noise on either of those like it does on Myspace) and all I found was an Italian website. Weird...how the hell is that fuck America's #1 ringtone. Would you fuck--that bird gives me goddamn night sweats.

We've encountered a lot of really good electro on mySpace. Not exactly electroclash, a bit more melodic and ultra-funky, but sorta cheezy spaceage with it too. Nice tunes. Also, the rock we have been finding is wild and raw and very Detroity. I suppose mySpace is a big place and we've avoided the bulk of the emo and corporate nu metal to date.

gygax OTM.

the myspace prevailing trend seems to be, as suggested, My Chemical Romance/Matchbook Romance/blah blah blah...but honestly almost every local band I know in Mpls has a site on there now so it's kinda hard to pigeonhole it.

It's interesting isn't it. They use it as a sort of fan club. Makes me wonder if it gets more traffic than a regular website, even for big names.

"MySpace is putting out a record - and if you buy it, you can get more photos for your myspace page :)

This is something I'm really excited about. It's not something I've mentioned much on my profile, but before MySpace I was in bands for most of my life. That's where I came up with the idea for MySpace Music and having bands on the site. For most of this year, I've been working on putting a record label together -- MySpace Records -- and the first release, a compilation CD, is finally here."

"I will write more about MySpace Records, what its about and where it's going and where it came from soon. But I wanted to get the word out now, because the CD is in store everywhere in just 5 more days!"
