Did a search, and it seems there has never been a thread devoted to this on ILM.

Mine is Sousa's "Liberty March" btw, nowadays most famous for being the "Monty Python's Flying Circus" theme.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Monday, 28 March 2005 23:05 (twenty-one years ago)

"Waltzing Matilda", because I can't get real songs, and it reminds me of the Pogues.

Dan I. (Dan I.), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 09:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I was bored one day, so I programmed in the following tunes, using the inbuilt composer thingy:

"The Red Flag" (my current one)
"Giu la Testa" and "The Good, The Bad and the Ugly" by Ennio Morricone
"New World Symphony" by Dvorák (not all of it obviously!)
"The Gnome" by Pink Floyd
The theme music to "Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em" and "Call My Bluff"
"Neon Lights" by Kraftwerk

What a saddo!

i don't have any ringtones on my phone, but i do know that three of my female friends have it set so that its "Toxic" when i call them. i'm kinda proud of that, in a weird sort of way.

jonviachicago, Tuesday, 29 March 2005 14:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I wonder if "Soon" could be reproduced in proper muffled fashion.

I loathe them, too, but my mother ventured to buy me one. Yeesh. I'm so unappreciative.

That said, Beethoven's Ninth because there's nothing else I can really stand...but I almost always have it on vibrate when it's not off (and it is most of the time).

eight months pass...
oh man i spent too much money recently on a phone that can do mp3s and stuff, and i loaded it up:

standard: the piano break from blame's "music takes you (2 bad mice rmx)" it was "uptown top ranking" for a while.
dad: "spoilt victorian child"
mom: henry cow "nirvana (reprise)"
brother: "photograph"
girl i'm seeing: chromeo, forget which track
txt msg beep: one bar of the amen break

i'm officially annoying, now. love it!

geoff (gcannon), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 23:24 (twenty years ago)

It used to be "The Final Countdown" (my little ode to "Arrested Development") but now it's "Whole Lotta Love". The intro makes a great ringtone. I have the MIDI version, though, not the mp3 version. MIDI ringtones are easier to pick out when you're in a loud environment, and if you keep it as your ringtone long enough I guarantee that whenever you hear the song on your ipod or radio you will think your phone is ringing--which sucks!

musically (musically), Wednesday, 14 December 2005 23:39 (twenty years ago)

My ringtone is "Firefly".

mentalist (mentalist), Thursday, 15 December 2005 00:16 (twenty years ago)

my phone is my sister's old phone, and thus, currently rings with "Milkshake"... not that that is particularly bad, but I can't see myself paying for ringtones on my own accord.

Quinn (quinn), Thursday, 15 December 2005 00:23 (twenty years ago)

All ringtones suck. Do we really need more intrusive random noise in this world? Use the vibe setting, for fuck's sake.

Also, get off my lawn, you rotten kids.

Austin Still (Austin, Still), Thursday, 15 December 2005 01:13 (twenty years ago)

I just got a new phone today. Samsung D807. Ned is a genius and therefore I'm going to put an MP3 of "Soon" as my ringtone. Now I just need to figger out if I wanna start the tone at 0:08 into the song or 0:43...

I think the beginning of "Europe Endless" would be great too, as well as the harmonics from "Nosferatu Man".

less-than three's Christiane F. (drowned in milk), Sunday, 3 September 2006 03:40 (nineteen years ago)

How are you going to put the mp3 on your phone? Does it allow uploads?

The chorus to "Congratulations" by Silvia Night.

(Ringtones may be the worst thing ever to have happened to me)
right now-"Interiors", Manic Street Preachers (I was as surprised as you to find that Verizon had Manics ringtones)
"The Rat", the Walkmen, 'cause it cracks me up like a twelve-year-old when the phone says "You've got a nerve to be dialing my number"
"Everywhere You Turn," Longwave. 'Cause I like Longwave.

Mark G, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 15:10 (eighteen years ago)

Mine's a J.S.Bach prelude. Was in the phone already. But I do like it nevertheless.

One of the weirdest - the most embarras-fukk-singly, pathetically feeble-thin-sheepish-sounding tones I've ever heard - was the bleep-bleep-bleep versh of Deep Purple's "Smoke on the Water"! :)

t**t, Wednesday, 10 October 2007 15:15 (eighteen years ago)

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 11 October 2007 01:18 (eighteen years ago)

My g-friend's dad found a Razr in a men's room @ the Hong Kong airport, and gave it too me when mine crapped out.

It has a cheezy Chinese pop-song the previous owner downloaded, for a ringtone.

I can't bear to part with it even though I'm sometimes really self-concious about it when it rings in public places.

i have a friend who has "Giant Steps".

Endless Endless from Trans-Europe Express

Yeah thinking of switching to this. I had the intro of "Man Machine" for a while. Kraftwerk makes for awesome and FUNCTIONING ringtones.

baaderonixx, Thursday, 25 June 2009 14:54 (sixteen years ago)

I wouldn't, but if I did: "Ruckzeug"

Mark G, Thursday, 25 June 2009 14:58 (sixteen years ago)

The thing I discovered about ringtones is that they have to be a little annoying. For a while I tried Blue Monday, then I tried Isaac Haye's version of Walk on By, and they'd start and I'd just think, oh, there's some music somewhere, how nice. I think Endless Endless would feel the same for me, but I'm sure some of their stuff would work.

But the iconic intro to Jupiter Jazz, as posted above? That sounds like an alarm.

dan selzer, Thursday, 25 June 2009 15:04 (sixteen years ago)
