Beanie Sigel - the B coming

The man is perhaps my favorite rapper. This is his best album, easy. Go get it!

paulhw (paulhw), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 15:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Agreed. Sweeping, sad music.

Sean F (Sean F), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 16:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not a massive fan of Beanie but this is a real good album. He does rip it but the production is what puts this over the top. Some sick beats.

That 'bread and butter' Just Blaze produced cut with Grand Puba and Sadat X from Brand Nu' is a track it took me about 5 or 6 listens to get, but when i did get it...aww, shit - what a song.

Jimmy Mcnulty, Tuesday, 29 March 2005 16:13 (twenty-one years ago)

is this out yet?

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 16:52 (twenty-one years ago)

today, in the shops

paulhw (paulhw), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 16:55 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah i've never been a huge fan of Beanie, probably my 3rd favorite guy in State Property, but I've heard a ton of tracks off this and almost every one is great, so I'm looking forward to picking it up this week.

Al (sitcom), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 18:02 (twenty-one years ago)

There's been very little talk about this for some reason! It's pretty damn great. Better than the Truth?

Lethal Dizzle (djdee2005), Saturday, 9 April 2005 22:38 (twenty-one years ago)

well, there was another (short) thread about it the other day: Beanie Sigel's The B. Coming

Al (sitcom), Saturday, 9 April 2005 23:12 (twenty-one years ago)

So are all rap threads required to be short in order to balance out the Jay-Z/Nas throwdown threads?

Lethal Dizzle (djdee2005), Saturday, 9 April 2005 23:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I haven't checked this one out yet but his records were always some of the best ROC shit. They never bogged his shit down with commercial bullshit and too many guest appearances like they did somewhat with the Freeway and Bleek albums. And I love his simple in-your-face style. I always thought he could really be huge when I first heard him with The Roots. He's just one of those rappers who commands your attention when you hear him. Is this a typical ROC album production-wise?? Are there any surprises?? Any "holy shit!!" beats??

Johnny Badlees (crispssssss), Sunday, 10 April 2005 01:25 (twenty-one years ago)

have you heard "I Gotta Have It"? that's a "holy shit!!" beat, in my opinion. for the most part, it sticks to typical Roc-sounding sample beats, even on tracks with like Bun B and Brand Nubian. and the token club record with the Neptunes and Snoop is strangely subdued and kinda fits in with the rest of it.

Al (sitcom), Sunday, 10 April 2005 05:26 (twenty-one years ago)

The Neptunes / Snoop track is the only one I don't like (the beat just doesn't work)...rest is really very very good. OK, you can forget the last 2 "bonus" tracks too.

paulhw (paulhw), Sunday, 10 April 2005 20:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah this is pretty stunning to me. A perfect example of where the east coast's strengths lie right now I think.

Lethal Dizzle (djdee2005), Sunday, 10 April 2005 20:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll second McNulty on "Bread and Butter"; one of the most surprising, difficult and rewarding hip hop tracks I've found in a month or so.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Sunday, 10 April 2005 20:35 (twenty-one years ago)

rap is going to have to do something pretty special to create a better artist album this year, for my money. it's not often that you can call a hiphop album genuinely beautiful, but this one really is. totally sick

stelfox, Sunday, 10 April 2005 21:20 (twenty-one years ago)

That crying, haunting saxophone on "Tales of a Hustler pt. 2" is sending shivers up my spine.

Lethal Dizzle (djdee2005), Monday, 11 April 2005 04:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I got the Sigel record today. "Bread And Butter" is unbelievable. The rest of the record is tight but I can't help listening to this one again and again.

Johnny Badlees (crispssssss), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 01:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I like how with "Bread and Butter" Blaze combines the "Oh Boy" rhythm with the weird high pitched drums and talking sample style of "People Talkin'".

Al (sitcom), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 01:07 (twenty-one years ago)

but am i the only one wanting to play "i can feel it in the air" 25 times a day?

jermaine (jnoble), Friday, 15 April 2005 23:42 (twenty-one years ago)

(strike the "i can" from the title, pedants)(for 'pedants', read: 'me')

jermaine (jnoble), Friday, 15 April 2005 23:46 (twenty-one years ago)

five years pass...

this is still really great. surprised it still holds up as well w/ me

Bitch, it cold outside!!! BURR (San Te), Thursday, 23 December 2010 02:28 (fifteen years ago)

yeah one of the best rap records of the decade imo

classic fat joe face (deej), Thursday, 23 December 2010 02:51 (fifteen years ago)

i never got super-into this tbh. i know i should revisit it at some point.

The Reverend, Thursday, 23 December 2010 10:03 (fifteen years ago)

i can feel it in the air gives me chills....didn't heavy d produce a beat on this?

in my world of Hmong ppl (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 23 December 2010 16:06 (fifteen years ago)

that song, actually.

Bitch, it cold outside!!! BURR (San Te), Thursday, 23 December 2010 21:26 (fifteen years ago)

five months pass...

'my lifes shaped like i run about a mile a day'

lol his body sure aint

no joke when i started running for the first time to exercise i had never done it before, at all -- more of a team sports/ swimming dude -- but for some reason i was like, i know, i'll take training advice from beanie sigel, & just decided i was gonna run a mile a day!! turns out that doesn't really shape much at all, tho

arachno-misogynist (D-40), Saturday, 18 June 2011 01:31 (fifteen years ago)

oh snap you just gave Whiney so much ammo

President Keyes, Saturday, 18 June 2011 01:53 (fifteen years ago)

sports, my secret shame

arachno-misogynist (D-40), Saturday, 18 June 2011 01:56 (fifteen years ago)

this is a dope album but it's kind of a shame it gets so much more love from some people than his first two, which are probably better, although they're all pretty close in quality

some dude, Saturday, 18 June 2011 16:11 (fifteen years ago)

I kind of think this one is the best tbh

arachno-misogynist (D-40), Saturday, 18 June 2011 16:48 (fifteen years ago)

i respect that, i'm just saying people who like this one should spend more time w/ The Truth and The Reason too

some dude, Saturday, 18 June 2011 16:54 (fifteen years ago)

never got the love for this. except for "gotta have it" which is like top five beats of the decade for me.

strongo hulkington's ghost dad, Saturday, 18 June 2011 17:01 (fifteen years ago)

classic joint yeah

some dude, Saturday, 18 June 2011 17:04 (fifteen years ago)

"take a look at me now" "tales of a hustler 2" "bread and butter" are soo good. 1st one I mentioned esp. I think a lot of folks were down on this bcuz of the lame ass bonus tracks which is too bad

Def agree that his first two lps are on this level, although i'm not so sure this album is really remembered by that many ppl above the others any more?

arachno-misogynist (D-40), Saturday, 18 June 2011 17:12 (fifteen years ago)

maybe not in general, but on ilm probably, yeah

some dude, Saturday, 18 June 2011 17:16 (fifteen years ago)

I can feel it in the air

brimstead, Wednesday, 19 December 2018 22:31 (seven years ago)

Used to get fronted bricks, now I'm buyin' 'em
Used to cop off my man, now I'm supplyin' him
Paid the front row seat watchin' Iverson
First class air crafts what I'm flyin' in
To L.A., Shaq, Eddie, Kobe Bryant and them
Save the jokes for Chris Tucker, Richard Pryor and them

No Smockin' (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 19 December 2018 22:32 (seven years ago)

No Smockin' (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 19 December 2018 22:42 (seven years ago)

Clones has one of the all-time hardest beats

тпсбlack (Spottie), Wednesday, 19 December 2018 22:45 (seven years ago)

I watched Erykah Badu's (incredible) Unplugged set on cable recently and they played the "you got me" video afterwards and I got all emotional and nostalgic

brimstead, Wednesday, 19 December 2018 23:45 (seven years ago)

its a timeless gem, no doubt

man I listened to this album so much during my 2010s hip hop renaissance and I was just drowning in East Coast music.

his presence, the production, his raw emotion...
