Capitol Years: "Let Them Drink"

I've only just picked it up. First impressions:

-They're certainly Developing As A Band. Seems like a pretty conscious effort to evolve out of garage rock, but in a very Beatles/Kinks/Stones kind of way.

-Sounds overcompressed -- I want to be overwhelmed by the awesomeness of the sound on an album like this.

-Putting the "single" second instead of first is an interesting move.

-Ramona and Mounds of Money are standout tracks. Solid Gold and Nothing to Say also aren't bad.

-They're still better when they rock than when they do the acoustic thing.

Meet Yr Acres was a fine, fine record that I for one do appreciate having been made.

Jon, what I most recommend is to check them out live. I think you may have missed your chance already for this tour, but they tend to hit the road a lot.

i really loved the last two records from them -- this one is a disappointment.
