where is the love for - hell, where are the mentions of? - boom bip, "blue eyed in the red room"?

it's like it doesn't even exist round these parts! and i think it's a fantastic album: intricate melodies winding through organic electronica. with a bit of gruff rhys and nina nastasia too.

right enough, i haven't heard his earlier stuff so i can't make an informed boom-bipular comparison. but as an album in its own right i think it's really rather lovely.

am i really so lost and alone?

I haven't heard this one, but really enjoyed Seed to Sun. How does this compare?

i love it and have been listening to it loads. the gruff rhys track is fabulous.

that's the problem: i haven't heard "seed to sun". how does it compare? stylus had a pop about this new one being a step backwards; being more electronic wash, less in-your-face.

Are there vocals on the album aside from the Rhys track?

Jonathan (Jonathan), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 12:41 (twenty-one years ago)

other than nina nastasia, no.

at least, not that i'm remembering.

While I haven't heard the entire new album (I think it's been a bit unfairly ignored due to high number of other attention getting releases), I've really enjoyed the three or four tracks I've heard. And while it is different from the first album (I can't put my finger on it exactly, I think it's a bit more subtle, less-bouncy, but beautiful like parts of the first album), I think anyone who loves this album would also entirely enjoy the first album. From what I've read, there does seem to be less excitement about this one (although tinymixtapes.com gave it a 5/5), but I think that's more of a bandwagon thing. I heard he uses more of his own instruments on this one and very little sampling but from the track I've heard, it hasn't caused a drop in quality. So, yes, I support both albums and think you'd enjoy both grimly.

Also check out his remixes record Corymb. All of it is worth your time.

It's a very pretty album. His drums are kinda weak, though.

What about on the Gruff Rhys track? Some nice pseudo-tribal drumming there...

six years pass...

How's the new one? The Pitchfork review makes it sound like a grab bag of shit.
