Propaganda to thread!

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 22:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Prog acts going pop from the late 70s onwards are clearly inferior to the best of this genre at its 70s heyday:

1. 10cc: Don't Hang Up
2. 10cc: I'm Mandy Fly Me
3. ELO: Wild West Hero
4. 10cc: Un Nuit a Paris
5. Supertramp: Hide In Your Shell

Jethro Tull - Staking Away on the Thin Ice of a New Day
Pink Floyd - Young Lust
Rush - Tom Sawyer
Peter Gabriel - In Your Eyes (if that counts, if not, Salisbury Hill certainly must)
Procul Harem - Whiter Shade of Pale (Or would we consider that too early?)

Bryan Moore (Bryan Moore), Friday, 1 April 2005 06:54 (twenty-one years ago)

1) Rush, "Subdivisions"
2) Yes, "It Can Happen"
3) ELP, "Karn Evil 9 1st Impression pt. 2"
4) Genesis, "Turn It on Again"
5) Renaissance, "Northern Lights"

Joe (Joe), Friday, 1 April 2005 12:07 (twenty-one years ago)

3) ELP, "Karn Evil 9 1st Impression pt. 2"

This is stretching "progpop" too far IMO. "Karn Evil" is pure and unpopified prog.

Procul Harem - Whiter Shade of Pale (Or would we consider that too early?)

Considered by a lot of people to be the first prog rock song. It certainly isn't prog rock, but I think prog pop may be a good description.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Friday, 1 April 2005 12:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Queen - "Bohemian Rhapsody"
XTC - "Snowman"
Stereolab - "Space Moth"
Beach Boys - "Cabinessence"
Cardiacs - any number of about a thousand songs
