LCD Soundsystem and M.I.A. to Tour Together

Rob Kleckner reports:
I can't possibly give LCD Soundsystem and M.I.A. any more hype than they've already received. What's amazing, though, is that these two artists have caught fire with very few U.S. tour dates to their credit. But that's about to change-- and in grand fashion. M.I.A. will open for LCD Soundsystem in North America in May and June. Here's the schedule thus far:

04-02 New York, NY - Bowery Ballroom
05-10 Vancouver, BC - Commodore Ballroom*
05-11 Seattle, WA - Showbox*
05-14 San Francisco, CA - Fillmore*
05-15 Los Angeles, CA - El Rey*
05-19 Chicago, IL - Metro*
05-20 Detroit, MI - St. Andrew's Hall*
05-21 Toronto, Ontario - Opera House*
05-22 Montreal, Quebec - Le Tulipe*
06-09 Boston, MA - Avalon*
06-10 New York, NY - Webster Hall
06-11 Philadelphia, PA - Transit
06-12 Washington, D.C. - 9:30 Club*

Well if that 05-14 date is correct that will be the day after the Friday show at the Independent.

M.I.A. will open for LCD Soundsystem

Much as I like LCD, I'd reverse that order. Anyway, LA FAP on May 15th? Too bad that's a Sunday!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 22:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Is the LCD Soundsystem album ACTUALLY selling well?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 22:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I mentioned this on the Chicago thread on ILE, but I'm amazed that tickets (for Chicago at least) are $21! I'd have figured it'd be a $15 show, tops.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 22:21 (twenty-one years ago)

wow.

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 22:22 (twenty-one years ago)

this'll be the first time in maybe 4 or so years that i actually make sure to buy my ticket at 10AM when they go onsale.

firstworldman (firstworldman), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 22:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually, when DO they go on sale?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 22:37 (twenty-one years ago)

No MPLS = TRASH

Stupornaut (natepatrin), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 23:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Holy... did the Webster Hall show go on sale as of yet?

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 23:24 (twenty-one years ago)

The Fillmore ones are not on their site.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 23:26 (twenty-one years ago)

that philly date must be a making time party. get rad, folks!

maria tessa sciarrino (theoreticalgirl), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 23:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh... she isn't playing with them in NY. Bummer.

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 23:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow! A tour worth seeing that doesn't skip Detroit!

peepee (peepee), Wednesday, 30 March 2005 23:41 (twenty-one years ago)

As for solving the equation, M.I.A. + LCD = the ultimate powerhouse of swelling hype in the underground, a.k.a. The Velvet Underground, even if neither sound a damn thing like them.

What we want? Sex with T.V. stars! What you want? Ian Riese-Moraine! (Eastern Ma, Wednesday, 30 March 2005 23:43 (twenty-one years ago)

M.I.A. + LCD = "mid-cal," which I suppose means it's neither lite, nor entirely filling.

M.I.A. will open for LCD Soundsystem
Much as I like LCD, I'd reverse that order.

Ned, if you saw them perform at SXSW, you'd change your mind. I was unimpressed with LCD, but probably mostly because I'm not wild about the album. I love M.I.A.'s album, but live, her show was pretty thin. Ultimately, even I had to admit that LCD Soundsystem pumped out more energy than Ms. Galang, a DJ and a sidekick MC do.

Hm! Well, I'll keep that in mind.

Bimble... (Bimble...), Thursday, 31 March 2005 04:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't blame people for getting excited. It's a sweet pairing. But since I just saw LCD/MIA, I'm now all fired up to see VHS or Beta/Electric Six in two weeks. That, my friends, will rawk.

Mr Deeds (Mr Deeds), Thursday, 31 March 2005 04:35 (twenty-one years ago)

VHS or Beta have done some great stuff.

Bimble... (Bimble...), Thursday, 31 March 2005 04:37 (twenty-one years ago)

shows at the metro in chicago always seem overpriced to me, so i'm not suprised at the 21 bucks. I wish I was going to be home that week so i could see it though...

temeraire (r h), Thursday, 31 March 2005 04:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I bet LCD has sold fuck all, as will MIA, because both of them appeal primarily to the downloading demographic.

Jacob (Jacob), Thursday, 31 March 2005 05:04 (twenty-one years ago)

But I got this cool pale green mirror ball keychain when I bought the LCD CD!

Bimble... (Bimble...), Thursday, 31 March 2005 05:28 (twenty-one years ago)

that sounds about right. i'd have a hard time believing that she could out-perform the absolute powerhouse of a live band that lcd soundsystem has on tour.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 31 March 2005 10:55 (twenty-one years ago)

hey bimble, where'd you buy the LCD to get the keychain?

i'll be buying tix for this show asap. it might end up being disappointing (how can it possibly stand up to the hype) but i'll be there regardless.

biznotic, Thursday, 31 March 2005 15:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned, if you saw them perform at SXSW, you'd change your mind. I was unimpressed with LCD, but probably mostly because I'm not wild about the album.

The first half of that LCD show was pretty weak, mainly due to the gaps between songs, but the second half was incredible. "Yeah" has to be one of my top 10 (5?) concert moments all-time.

JC-L (JC-L), Thursday, 31 March 2005 16:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, THIS is a blessing in disguise. Two bands I wanted to see live now playing together.. convenient! (When do Seattle tickets go on sale?)
