Lethal B "POW/Forward Riddim" is pretty good.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 31 March 2005 00:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I saw the Galang video the other day and she couldn'y have looked more uncomfortable (yet still way hot) also The Basement Jaxx new video is alright but the song is rad.

jmeister (jmeister), Thursday, 31 March 2005 00:08 (twenty-one years ago)

MCR - "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)," "Helena"
The Game & 50 Cent - "Hate it or Love It,"
The Killers - "Mr. Brightside"
Amerie - "1 Thing"
Ludacris - "Get Back"

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Thursday, 31 March 2005 00:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I got the first Laibach DVD. All the videos up to and including "Sympathy For The Devil" are ultra classic... especially "Gerbert Einer Nation".

"GEEF ME A LITE BEER!"

donut debonair (donut), Thursday, 31 March 2005 00:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I like the "Signs" video, totally formulaic but a swell glossy surface; but "Hate It Or Love It," really? Good song, but the video seems extremely dull to me.

Zed Szetlian (Finn MacCool), Thursday, 31 March 2005 01:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I love the Hate It Or Love It video. Someone else already mentioned the way Game smiles when he does his part of the hook. I just like the video.

And the Amerie video is hot. Or she is. In it.

Thanks for asking:

Yeah, the overxposed look and setting are perfect for the song, I think. And yeah, The Game's cleaning-off-his-watch smile is pretty priceless.

I was just thinking about them and this video earlier today! MINDMELD.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 31 March 2005 04:08 (twenty-one years ago)

No one has as charming a cleaning-off-the-watch smile as The Game. I think thats why 50 broke down and rekindled their G-Unity.

Johnny Badlees (crispssssss), Thursday, 31 March 2005 04:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Daft Punk's "Robot Rock" video: seemingly filmed in 1980 on TOTP's cheapest video camera (strobing and flaring off the scale). Full "Robot" regalia from the boys, one on drums one on twin-neck guitar. Much fret-wankery and swooping camera.

Suddenly the song makes sense.

The album's still 3/4 plop though.

Bill A, Thursday, 31 March 2005 10:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Bikstok Rogsystem 'Cigar' is the best one i have seen this year

the Bees one is cute i guess

Ludacris - "Get Back"

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 31 March 2005 14:24 (twenty-one years ago)

is that the one where he's got massive hands?

Michael B, Thursday, 31 March 2005 14:28 (twenty-one years ago)

is that the Austin Powers one? that's terrible/so 2001

Sven Basted (blueski), Thursday, 31 March 2005 14:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Um, no. It's the one where he has gigantic hands for no reason and he's stomping down the street with a posse of plus-sized women tearing up shit and throwing people over buildings.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 31 March 2005 14:32 (twenty-one years ago)

(So, Michael is correct)

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 31 March 2005 14:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Avi (Avi), Thursday, 31 March 2005 15:25 (twenty-one years ago)

did Gondry do that Get Back vid?

The Sensational Sulk (sexyDancer), Thursday, 31 March 2005 15:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Jonze.

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Thursday, 31 March 2005 15:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Gondry's still never done a US rap video tho he said he wanted to.

Sven Basted (blueski), Thursday, 31 March 2005 15:31 (twenty-one years ago)

He produced the full-length Fugees reunion concert movie coming out this year!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 31 March 2005 15:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Er, directed. Dave Chappelle produced it/funded the whole thing out of his pocket!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 31 March 2005 15:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Also, regarding the thread question:

WHO ATE ALL THE PIES WHO ATE ALL THE PIES THERE GOES WILEY THERE GOES WILEY HE ATE ALL THE PIES

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 31 March 2005 15:34 (twenty-one years ago)

The video for "Mr.Brightside" has completely put me off the Killers for good. It's like something Maroon 5 should've done (i.e. it's crap). And Eric Roberts ruins everything.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 31 March 2005 15:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't not vehemently disagree about a single thing in that sentence, aside from the fact that yes, there is a band called The Killers and they have a video for a song called "Mr. Brightside". That I agree with.

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Thursday, 31 March 2005 15:44 (twenty-one years ago)

o. nate (onate), Thursday, 31 March 2005 16:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Interpol - "Evil"
Cursor Miner - "Library"
LCD Soundsystem - "Daft Punk is Playing at My House"
Björk - "Triumph of the Heart"
New Order - "Krafty"
Dizzee Rascal - "Off 2 Work"
Gorillaz - "Feel Good Inc"
Devendra Banhart - "A Ribbon"
Lemon Jelly - "The Shouty Track"

JoB (JoB), Thursday, 31 March 2005 17:34 (twenty-one years ago)

oh yeah, I keep forgetting about "Evil". That video upsets me deeply, but I'm starting to think in a good way.

LCD's vid disappointed.

The Good Dr. Bill (The Good Dr. Bill), Thursday, 31 March 2005 17:46 (twenty-one years ago)

The Killers and Interpol videos are both great. The Interpol puppet is super-creepy. I also like the other recent Ludacris video, where he's a mad scientist in a lab or something. And for some reason, I can't stop watching this one Southern rap video where they keep cutting back to a DJ in his front yard with this incredibly ugly, under-dressed girl gyrating in front of the turntables like the world's most bored, man-hating stripper. The rest of the video sucks, of course, but the shots of that girl make me hate life even more than usual, so it wins a thousand points for that alone. Reminds me of a porn movie I wanted to make for awhile, which would be set in a beat-up apartment totally devoid of furniture, and the whole cast would be people between 18-22, lying around drinking and smoking crack on-camera, and periodically two or three of them would have sex while the others kept right on drinking and smoking crack, silently, in the background. All the music would be mid-80s Schoolly D.

Adobe is repping MIKE JONES!

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 31 March 2005 18:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Except for that "rest of the video sucks" nonsense.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 31 March 2005 18:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I caught part of a Shakira video where she turns into a cartoon and deflates the fake breasts of her nemesis by puncturing them. I don't know if it was good, but it was fairly entertaining. I wish she would keep her hair dark and add some Lebanese sabor to her music. But I thought it was pretty good.

RS £aRue (rockist_scientist), Thursday, 31 March 2005 18:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I liked the "Gasolina" video too, and liked what I saw of "Oye Mi Canto" though I guess all of this is kind of old.

RS £aRue (rockist_scientist), Thursday, 31 March 2005 18:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I liked the "Gasolina" video too

Remind me, RS, were you coming around on reggaeton or had you always been a fan with reservations?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 31 March 2005 18:34 (twenty-one years ago)

"Objection/Tango" is one of the most deranged videos ever created. I love it to bits.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 31 March 2005 18:40 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, the new ian brown video is pretty brutal...

ken taylrr (ken taylrr), Thursday, 31 March 2005 19:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I have on reasonably good authority (aka my gf just called me at work to tell me) that the video for "Wait" is really really good.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 31 March 2005 20:30 (twenty-one years ago)

It's classy looking and the version on launch uses sound effects rather than that gawdawful "waittillishowyouthis -nevergetenoughnevergetenough" shit and the skinny yanger looks good with a shaved head. They do that one guy laying with a million women thing from Em's "Superman."

miccio (miccio), Thursday, 31 March 2005 22:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Has the same kind of sheen as Usher's "Confessions." Looks a bit like a car ad.

miccio (miccio), Thursday, 31 March 2005 22:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha I totally forgot about the clean version.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 31 March 2005 22:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Remind me, RS, were you coming around on reggaeton or had you always been a fan with reservations?

I'm pretty shizoid about it. It's still part of the huge trend toward minimalism in pop music (at any rate harmonic and melodic minimalism) that I see as basically negative, but I have been enjoying some of it. Even though musically it doesn't have to much to do with the Latin music I like, I can't help smiling at the sort of national identity shout outs that I find sort of charming elsewhere. Also, because of it's big steps toward crossing over to new audiences, I think it's probably in more of a state of flux right now, so it's possible it will develop in directions I like more. (I don't mean to imply I've been watching it for a long time or anything, since I haven't been, and many of you have already heard a lot more of it than I have.) And on that mix pheNAM made for me, he chose material that does have splashes of horn and accordion or guitar sounds that reference the stuff I listen to (plus in some cases I'm able to pick up musical allusions to other songs and musical tropes, so I do get a certain feeling of being an insider and knowing stuff that's going on that would go past those less familiar with Latin music).

I hope that wasn't too too long-winded and self-important.

RS £aRue (rockist_scientist), Friday, 1 April 2005 01:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I really like Eddie Dee & Los 12 Discipulos: "Quitate Tu Pa' Ponerme Yo," partly because there are a lot of separate segments with little melodic motifs, and there's a great little archetypal horn thing that comes in really late. Oh, and duh, the clave comes in real strong at certain points, no wonder I feel comfortable with it.

RS £aRue (rockist_scientist), Friday, 1 April 2005 01:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanks, Dan, I missed that before. That must be the Shakira video I saw. My apartment building just added a small gym area, so I was watching cable TV (which I no longer have) while riding a stationary bank, and after a lot of searching, I finally found some "Spanish Music" videos. (This is good. It will give me a reason to use the gym there more.)

RS £aRue (rockist_scientist), Friday, 1 April 2005 01:20 (twenty-one years ago)

$V£N! (blueski), Thursday, 19 May 2005 14:53 (twenty-one years ago)

What freaks me out about Phil’s post is that I somehow KNEW he was the author before I reached the end. Well, that and the content of the post itself.

Raymond Cummings (Raymond Cummings), Thursday, 19 May 2005 16:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Gondry's still never done a US rap video tho he said he wanted to.

I need to correct this somewhat as he did direct 'Another One Bites The Dust' for the Refugee Allstars.
