Inspired by the former's mention on the 9/11 responses thread. Probably the pinnacle of German dancehall (certainly the best and well known Germaican riddim) vs. the best track on the Outkast album that finally cemented their place as white critical darlings.

I think Mission to Basra's "Bolides over Baghdad" beats all.

The JaXoN 5 (JasonD), Thursday, 31 March 2005 05:26 (twenty-one years ago)

why did prima hate german dancehall so much? was it just a purity thing?

The JaXoN 5 (JasonD), Thursday, 31 March 2005 05:33 (twenty-one years ago)

the Outkast track is forever gold in my heart, but I'm enjoying this ringy dingy.

hold tight the private caller (mwah), Thursday, 31 March 2005 09:44 (twenty-one years ago)

look i find the bulk of german dancehall middling to terrible but then so's everything, big deal, only an opinion, what cheesed me off ws more how these few tunes (there's not so many made after all) keep finding their way thru to avant-drill-n-breakcore-bleh playlists cf rupture, the bug, the dissensus canadianuum (AS I HAVE DUBBED IT), whatever, at the expense of one million jamaican tunes harder better faster stronger. it's baffling because it seems to have nothing to do with quality, and more i might venture with the friends ppl make.

ive nothing against outsider global dancehall but yknow can i at least check if its good b4 i go hurrah?

not especially a fan of ring ding myself.

(this has been done already, can we not turn it into a mia argument plz)

("at the expense of" is eviller than i meant it, soz)

somehow jamaica will soldier on without breakcore's consent.

also, is having friends bad?

strng hlkngtn, Thursday, 31 March 2005 12:29 (twenty-one years ago)

i will admit i am a little disappointed he's white. i kinda liked the idea of this internal island in exile of expat jamaicas living in the reichstag

strng hlkngtn, Thursday, 31 March 2005 12:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah now I am thinking they are almost all white. Gentleman, Seeeed, etc.

Germaica had two or three nice riddims (Pharaoh being the best, Cure/Curefix being the cutest) and some very nice Ce'cile stuff. I can see why the Pharaoh stuff ended up getting a little moment of fame (it's a great riddim.) I wasn't actually aware that it went much farther than that (although Ripley did play a Gentleman tune on one of her sets recently that was really quite good--and which I have been unable to track down.)
