Shouldn't the question be 'how long would it last before going bankrupt?'. (Obviously its releases would become highly collectable in time)

snotty moore, Thursday, 31 March 2005 21:25 (twenty-one years ago)

ILM Records 0004 - Ned Ragget - Ned Ragget Reads the Almanac (Remastered + Bonus Tracks)

Matt, I love you. Now SPELL MY LAST NAME RIGHT. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 31 March 2005 21:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Or another question, how long before ILM Records would get sued over some sort of copyright infringement related charges?

Mickey (modestmickey), Thursday, 31 March 2005 21:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Matt, I love you. Now SPELL MY LAST NAME RIGHT. ;-)

Um, yeah, Ned, I've been meaning to talk to you about that...We'd like to go with "Ragget" for your stage name...Our marketing people feel like "Raggett" is a little too "ethnic". Hope you understand.

p.s. sorry homie!

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Thursday, 31 March 2005 21:38 (twenty-one years ago)

A profitable, more commercial sub label to subsidise good works might be necessary- I Like Music, perhaps?

ILM Records 0006 - Dan Perry Sings The Cure

Actually, this is a FANTASTIC idea. Even better: Dan Perry singing the Cure a capella, in four-part harmony with himself.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 31 March 2005 22:04 (twenty-one years ago)

ILM Records 0008 - Fiona Apple, "Extraordinary Machine"

a series of crunk-grime-italo-filter-house e.p.'s on 10" clear vinyl and 3" CD's

...all of them gaining a 100% positive critical reception by only being bothered with by Byron Coley in The Wire's "Size Matters" column: "...the kind of fake organic intricacy usually only offered by a handful of pheasant eyeballs bouncing around inside the body of a replica viola da gamba. A hit around our house."

ILM 0009 - Ian Riese-Moraine's menstrual egg timer

What we want? Sex with T.V. stars! What you want? Ian Riese-Moraine! (Eastern Ma, Friday, 1 April 2005 00:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I was thinking some sort of St Etienne reissues but I would be chuffed to see some of the ILM rough guides available.

ILM 0013: "Purge: The Forensics Suite" - Britney Spears (the long-held-back collaboration with Skinny Puppy that first surfaced as a Japanese bootleg. Highlights include a breaks-inflected cover of "Smothered Hopes", and the Max Martin-penned "Yeahhhh, Just Hit Me", which, of course, throws a well-worn Afrika Bambaataa sample in the mix. )

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Friday, 1 April 2005 14:59 (twenty-one years ago)

What would we call the noise-based sub-label?

Raymond Cummings (Raymond Cummings), Friday, 1 April 2005 15:00 (twenty-one years ago)

"Red Panda Sanskit," perhaps?

Raymond Cummings (Raymond Cummings), Friday, 1 April 2005 15:01 (twenty-one years ago)

"Red Panda Sanskit," perhaps?

Or even "Squeegee Tracheotomy".

And there'll need to be a rockist division, naturally.

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Friday, 1 April 2005 15:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Dan, you have my permission to go nuts with it.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 1 April 2005 15:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I once wrote an a capella arrangement of "Apart" that was... 9 parts? Bass line, guitar countermelody, synth triads, synth melody, lead vocal, whisper vocal, vocal harmony... yeah nine parts. No one wanted to perform it.

I also did a nine-part arrangement of "Scarborough Fair" around the same time. My 4-part "Under The Bridge" and 5-part "This Night HAs Opened My Eyes" were much simpler.

I am so firing up Sibelius this weekend.

Whoah, whoah, whoah - I DID NOT KNOW THAT YOU DID THIS SORT OF THING. I'm seriously going to record and post an acapella rendition of Interpol's "Evil" once we've moved the studio into the new space.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Friday, 1 April 2005 20:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Dan! You so crazy! That's awesome....do you have any mp3s up anywhere of that stuff?

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Friday, 1 April 2005 20:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Sadly, none of my arrangements were ever recorded/performed.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 1 April 2005 21:01 (twenty-one years ago)

"Geir Hongro Interprets Ethiopian Classics"

I would prefer to sing songs with lyrics that deal with Ethiopia in one way or another (would make a nice Bob Marley covers album ;) )
