Did The Talking Heads ever release the True Stories orig.Cast recoring?

In the liner notes to the True Stories, in which the actual band performs the songs found in the movie, David Byrne writes that in addition to releasing an album of the film's incidental music (which I have - features Merideth Monk's brilliant "Road Song" etc) and the band recordings there will also be a release of an album where the cast performs the songs as they do in the movie. John Goodman singing, etc. Did this ever get released? Is it bootlegged?

Didn't it (or at least part of it) get released as the b-sides?

I'm 99.9% sure there was an album of it.

Not sure if it's ever made it onto CD.

The incidental music soundtrack was vinyl only. I've never seen it on CD. I've never ever seen anything that seemed to be the cast recording. Would love to hear it (can't pull it from the DVD because often there's other characters in the crowd talking during the songs).

I'd rather hear the cast sing those songs than the TH.

"I'd rather hear the cast sing those songs than the TH. "

Exactly why my search is of the utmost importance.

Well, I remember when he said that, and I thought "Hmm, three albums? From one film? Not even Prince would swing that one..."

I've got John Goodman's version of "People Like Us" on the B-side of "Wild Wild Life". According to this John Goodman fan site:

A 'true' soundtrack to this one does not exist. There is an album of the music from the movie but it's all performed by the Talking Heads. The liner notes from the album say that the soundtrack version would be coming out soon but it never did. John does a great job on "People Like Us" and there are two ways it can be found. Either on the 'B' side of "Wild Wild Life" or on the 12-inch remix of "Wild Wild Life". Check eBay , cause it popps up there from time to time..

"True Stories" is the only TH album which helps me understand why David Byrne is still dismissed as patronizing and smug. John Goodman singing "People Like Us" is a case in point.

I didn't realise "True Stories" was originally recorded by Cast.

So great this. I wish they’d put out the Storytelling Giant on a proper DVD next.
