sorry if this has been posted - Im new here first post blah blah still figuring things out.
anyway I was wondering what people thought about the new gang gang dance - "god's money"

usually this isn't my thing - I'm not big on anything in the anti-folk neighborhood, not that Im sure this even is. but I was really surprised by how much I loved this album. also good for scaring pesky neighbors.

please say today's pitchfork review of gang gang dance is a joke.
Gang Gang Dance is complete and total crap, right?

welcome to the site. there's a search function at the bottom of the screen that lets you browse the archives :)

vanessa novaeris (novaeris), Friday, 6 May 2005 00:41 (twenty-one years ago)

It's one of the best records released this year (so far).

It is not anti-folk, though.

I do like this album a lot. Don't know what sparked off all the contention. What is their earlier stuff like?

dog latin (dog latin), Thursday, 9 June 2005 16:33 (twenty years ago)

dog latin - the new album is a big step forward for them. earlier ones much less structured, lots of aimless wanking around.

a, Thursday, 9 June 2005 16:37 (twenty years ago)

their show to an underfilled Bowery Ballroom was incredible. (yancey's blog has a brief bit about them.) they must've tightened up on their european tour. not only are they not anti-folk, but another thread above talked about them being improv, both tags waaaaay off the mark by now. it's like weird 4AD lushness meets primitive grime beats, but it's definitely structured.

Beta (abeta), Thursday, 9 June 2005 16:47 (twenty years ago)

Thank you!

(I like the early stuff too)

This is why Kyle should come!

I'm kind of not surprised that the Bowery Ballroom was underfilled - a lot of people seem to ignore/actively hate this band, which only serves to underline how precious they truly are!

Yakuza Ghost Six (nordicskilla), Thursday, 9 June 2005 17:02 (twenty years ago)

I have been absolutely RINSING God's Money this week.

Yakuza Ghost Six (nordicskilla), Thursday, 9 June 2005 17:03 (twenty years ago)

"they must've tightened up on their european tour"

they were tighter at Bowery than they were in paris and belgium. i wuz amazed

noizem duke (noize duke), Thursday, 9 June 2005 17:20 (twenty years ago)

They sucked at ATP(UK), but I'm almost tempted to go to the show in Oakland tonight because of the undying hype. Am I an optimistic party-goer or a masochistic fool?

Bobby Peru (Bobby Peru), Thursday, 9 June 2005 18:55 (twenty years ago)

I WILL BE THERE

Yakuza Ghost Six (nordicskilla), Thursday, 9 June 2005 19:02 (twenty years ago)

How was it?

Bobby Peru (Bobby Peru), Friday, 10 June 2005 09:40 (twenty years ago)

i bought the cd in baltimore, it was playing in the shop, and it sounded good!

but, it didnt sound so good in the car. im not sure what i think of it. i think i would like it if there were less, or better, drums. its quite yoko one, though it sounds a bit 1997 for me, sort of, er, like mice parade? (cant remember what they/he sounds like really, but it reminded me of it a little)

tracks 3 and 4 seem to be the best

charltonlido (gareth), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 13:38 (twenty years ago)

I like track 2 after the intro best.

dog latin (dog latin), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 15:15 (twenty years ago)

All about Egowar. Now get the Fusetron record, gareth!

Semaphore Burns (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 15:19 (twenty years ago)

Semaphore Burns (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 21 June 2005 15:19 (twenty years ago)

Alec in NYC (ex machina), Saturday, 27 August 2005 04:55 (twenty years ago)

Is it? I d'led one track off someone's MP3 blog a few weeks and thought it was really weird & kind of great. I trust your judgement, I'll have to get the record..

dar1a g (daria g), Saturday, 27 August 2005 05:07 (twenty years ago)

I'm not sure I will listen to it all that often, but I will like to spark up the bong and listen to this at 3am and feel creepy.

jermainetwo, Friday, 23 February 2007 13:16 (nineteen years ago)

they just played in brooklyn last weekend, and they were great.

hstencil, Friday, 23 February 2007 17:16 (nineteen years ago)

God's Money is one of those records that completely passed me by when it came out but I have since grown to love. I'm looking fwd to whatever they do next.

mcddcm, Friday, 23 February 2007 17:27 (nineteen years ago)

daria-g, Monday, 26 February 2007 13:42 (nineteen years ago)

God's Money = still on my to-buy-eventually list all these months later, but i found that one ep in a store and bought it and enjoyed it considerably.

In an other piece of Gang Gang Dance news, we are very excited to say that while the band were in London they got to record with grime MC Tynchy Stryder.

I also love this album. It's the only thing of theirs that I own. Saw them sometime in the last year with Ocrilim. Great show.
