Some people don't like New Order's cover of Jimmy Cliff's "Vietnam" - Why?

Yeah, give your reasons why it sucks. Because I can't understand what's wrong with it.

hated it at first, but grew to love it last summer after playing it endlessly. several of their recent songs have had a similar effect on me. krafty, vietnam, such a good thing, jetstream, others too but those are the ones i can think of right now. they're all cheesy at first but saved by catchy lyrics and massive Hooky baselines.

i've never heard original but it does sound like a cover.
p.s.jetstream is s econd single here in Australia but ithink it's one of the weakest tracks.
i downloaded the hwole cd and i'm not impessed except "krafty" which is pretty good. i loved "technique" because after one listen each song is memorable..

I think there's something especially charming about the way Barney sings this song. Innocent, almost childlike. I'd be hard pressed to explain why it comes across that way, though. And the bass playing reels me in regardless.

The song appeared on a compilation called "Hope" to benefit the War Child charity and children in Iraq. Here's a link about it:

Actually if I recall correctly, Brian Eno's wife was especially active in that charity. Not sure if she still is.

The sublime Love Vigilantes is a direct rip of the sublime original version of Vietnam. In my view, they should have left it at that, hid Bernard's guitar until he agreed to go back to his NileRodgers impressions and got Felix Da Housecat or Eno is produce the last album.

The original song is great but the words always struck me as being a bit awkward and unconvincing
