fucking fantastic. This upcoming week will be bpitch-mad for me, what with the new Ellen Allien coming out (I believe it's coming out here on Tuesday, right?) and this compilation.

Which of the artists featured herein are worth investigating further, via their full-lengths or mixes?

1. Luv Sikk - Kiki
2. We Electric - Sylvie Marks
3. Steinbeisser - Paul Kalkbrenner
4. Wish - Ellen Allien
5. Don't Panic - Modeselektor
6. Blütenspaß - Sylvie Marks
7. Forms & Shapes - Sascha Funke
8. Queer Fellow - Paul Kalkbrenner
9. Wasp - Kiki and Silversurfer
10. Sehnsucht - Ellen Allien
11. Do You Wanna Funk - Housemeister
12. Atwater. CA [Apparat Mix] - Charles Timtim
13. Lt Replay - Feadz
14. Numb - Tomas Andersson
15. Stadtkind - Ellen Allien
16. Sad - Smash TV
17. When Will I Be Famous - Sascha Funke
18. End of the World - Kiki
19. What About Me - Smash TV
20. Patron St of the Bad Comedians - Charles Timtim

ellen's been pushed back - to first week of june, i think. but yeah, this is great. lots of classics! "luv sikk" still kills me, as does "when will i be famous"...

That comp *is* fantastic. A lot of its tracks are edited from 12-inch versions to mix-friendlier pop lengths, and some are greatly improved by it-- Ellen Allien's wonderful "Sehnsucht" is even better developing at twice the clip.

As far as checking artists out beyond what's offered here, I like Allien, Timtim, Kiki, and Smash TV (in that order). Kiki's "Atomic" is probably my favorite track off the whole label. Sascha Funke is fine as well, but his best tracks are represented here ("When Will I Be Famous" is a favorite of mine). Hadn't heard Paul Kalkbrenner, but this makes me want to.

My only real disappointment with this label-- aside from the minor quibble that the albums are nowhere near as inspired as the singles-- is that Alex Amoon hasn't popped up again since his contribution to the Gemeinsam comp in 2002. "I Get Higher" was amazing! Anyway, if you like this, pick up Gemeinsam as well. Both are excellent.

Now that you mention it, though, they could stand an influx of new talent. By my count, they've only had one debut in the past year, and that's this Samson character I haven't bothered to check out yet. (Downloading now, fwiw.) Perhaps Allien's ditching the A&R game to focus on her clothing label.
