george clinton and p-funk are headlining "dillo day" fest this year at northwestern. usually the opening act is some battle-of-the-bands contest winner. w3sleyan had this too, once i think it was toots and maytals and the x-ecutioners (sp?) and some horrible student jam band.

When I was at W3sl3yan, we didn't have anyone really major there. PCU was based on us, you know!

When I was a senior at Rice in 1997, we had an interesting (if not major) lineup for the spring music festival. The acts that I remember are Peter Jeffries, Sarge and Spoon (who had just released the Soft Effects EP).

I saw Jesus Lizard at the Cave (on-campus bar) at Carleton in 1993. David Yow is definitely legendary for climbing naked into the steampipes above the audience for a good part of the show.

Fame is fleeting. Bills are not.

george clinton gets around, though. lollapalooza, taste of chicago, etc. not surprised to see him on the college circuit.

Clinton only headlined because Jeremy Piven has a hell of a rap.

You went there? Okay, just wondering...do people there go to New Haven like everyone in the Hartford area, or is there some sort of secret night scene there that no one knows about? The only place in Middletown that I know is Cornerstone's...

Especially when large sums of money are being spent on cocaine.

This being said, I am sad because he is not playing the Northeast, and I would have loved to have seen him at Toad's. =/

Fuck, that reminds me. I think I forgot to pay my cocaine bill this month ...

Yeah, I was going to post that George Clinton played at University of Maryland's Art Attack a couple years ago. Let's all agree that the thread title pretty much only applies to Clinton, who apparently loves playing colleges (or it's just the PCU legacy).

i went to new haven sometimes, but new york more often.

We definitely made our own fun for the most part. Besides the big weeknight at The Gatekeeper, most stuff was held in people's houses or organized big parties. In 4 years, I never went to events in either New Haven or Hartford, but I would go to NYC for a show or something.

Uncle Jam makes a pretty good living doing this -- I've seen him on three different campuses, doing wildly different shows each time. All were great, to varying degrees, with the highlight being the super-long, super-funky show at Drake University in 1998 that had me dancin' like I don't know how.

Shows with lots of Sir Nose foolishness -- C or D?
