Anybody into the alt.binaries.music.mp3 hierarchy? What's the best group for brand-new releases?

And if you don't know what I'm talking about, please move along, these aren't the droids you're looking for, there's nothing to see here, copyright violation what copyright violation, etc.

People still go to Usenet, other than for porn? Seriously, I want to know!

alt.binaries.sounds.mp3 is the clearing house. The specific genre groups are good for those genres, .indie and .gothic-industrial are both fairly good, if broad. .electronic is slightly disappointing, skewing more towards either ambient, electro, or house. .complete_cd has a lot of newer releases, as does .2000s

The metal one (I forget the URL, I gave up binaries access long ago) is actually moving at a steady pace now with a lot of old, OOP stuff.

I'm still waiting for that USENET revival that would have followed AOL's departure. =/

P2P rendered Usenet a little sparse, although I think copyright infringement stuff might eventually drive people back to it.

However, I still find tons more OOP or rarer stuff on Usenet than I ever do on Slsk.

Shit, meant "sounds" as opposed to "music" in the question. I'm checking out complete_cd, since I've been disappointed in .2000s.

The Bootleg Groups are worth frequent looksies.

Basically, almost everything gets posted in sounds.mp3. Not everyone bothers to post in a subcategory like .2000s or .complete_cd, but I sometimes find it easier to scan the subgroups before I check the big group. It can be taxing to look at a giant list of headers to eyeball for what you want.
