Guiltiest "inappropriate use of electronica within RAWK music" pleasure: POO

So how about it? This was spawned by the mention of "Turbo" - Judas Priest on another thread, which reminded me of "Little Red Book" by Ted Nugent on the "Little Miss Dangerous" album. It is, in a word, awesome. Other votes?

Um... Adore? The 'electronica' aspects of it are pretty embarssing... yet I love it so.. probably my favorite SP release.

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Thursday, 12 May 2005 00:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Second Queensryche album to thread.

TV's Mr Noodle Vague (noodle vague), Thursday, 12 May 2005 00:05 (twenty-one years ago)

XTRMNTR to thread! (And man, I would so kill for an instrumental version of that record.)

Stupornaut (natepatrin), Thursday, 12 May 2005 00:14 (twenty-one years ago)

XTRMNTR is your "guilty" pleasure?
This is where someone should open up with their love for the experimental Streisand album.

Any post-Kid A Radiohead.

Matt P., Thursday, 12 May 2005 00:47 (twenty-one years ago)

R.E.M. - "Walk Unafraid" -- not rawk enough maybe though

U2 - all of Pop, which is my favorite record of theirs, but especially "Mofo"

mrjosh (mrjosh), Thursday, 12 May 2005 01:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I had a video that included the Nuge shooting a synthesizer with a shotgun. He is very cruel.

The opening synth bubbles in the single version of Sweet's "Fox On the Run"...

Not guilt.. just sheer magic.

donut debonair (donut), Thursday, 12 May 2005 08:11 (twenty-one years ago)

The synth theme on Van Halen's "Jump" is one of the greatest synth themes ever, yet it sounds a bit out of place in that song...

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Thursday, 12 May 2005 08:27 (twenty-one years ago)

the final countdown - europe !

AleXTC (AleXTC), Thursday, 12 May 2005 09:52 (twenty-one years ago)

N_RQ, Thursday, 12 May 2005 10:00 (twenty-one years ago)

xtrmntr-probably better than 99 percent of punk funk

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 12 May 2005 10:11 (twenty-one years ago)

charltonlido (gareth), Thursday, 12 May 2005 10:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Dude, "Accelerator"!!

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Thursday, 12 May 2005 10:44 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, sure, but as a whole, you can't spot the join between 'rock' and 'electronica' ... even then, there's nothing retro-rock about 'accelerator', it just IS, a fkn amazing track... rock as hell, but never retro.

N_RQ, Thursday, 12 May 2005 10:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I've heard it. It's shit.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 12 May 2005 10:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Anyway, there's probably a whole sub-category of lamer indie bands who jumped on the acid house bandwagon and either a/got someone to do remixes for the b-side of their singles w/predictably dire/unlistenable results or b/played the same slack, unrocking shit they played before, except w/a burbling 303 acid/resonant synth line inserted into the mix. Fucking shit, one and all. The names of the guilty, thankfully, have been lost in time.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 12 May 2005 10:55 (twenty-one years ago)

time and bad memory, that is. I do remember the last B.A.D. album having a fair bit of b/ on it.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 12 May 2005 10:56 (twenty-one years ago)

You really need to hear "Space Ritual", Enrique. It's fucking great.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 12 May 2005 10:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I knew I shoulda said GvsB's Freak*on*ica

Stupornaut (natepatrin), Thursday, 12 May 2005 11:25 (twenty-one years ago)

xtrmntr is definitely a "rock" record ! it's filled with filthy distorted electric guitars !
no one talked about retro rock, anyway...

The drum machine-to-full drums intro to Wilco's "Heavy Metal Drummer."

The Mad Puffin, Thursday, 12 May 2005 12:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Postal Service to thread

Jena (JenaP), Thursday, 12 May 2005 12:49 (twenty-one years ago)

No, it's by hawkwind. Soup dragons, come on now...

I saw on some bloody useless tv program, doing some number off "xtrmntr", and it sounded like a lame take on hawkwind, crossed w/sigue sigue sputnik. BBBY did his "I'm hard, me" face which is always good for some hoots of derision, I guess.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 12 May 2005 12:51 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, you need to block out bobby if you're to have a snowball's chance of liking primal scream. (they covered 'motorhead' once.)

N_RQ, Thursday, 12 May 2005 12:57 (twenty-one years ago)

XTRMNTR was super-rawk live, although they should've turned up the guitars more.

Eppy (Eppy), Thursday, 12 May 2005 13:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Wasn't "Echo Dek" the istru XTRM, or was that for "VanPoint"?

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 12 May 2005 13:55 (twenty-one years ago)

echo dek was the dubbed out version of VP.

AleXTC (AleXTC), Thursday, 12 May 2005 13:58 (twenty-one years ago)

god, hawkwind is so good.
