Baker Street vs. Careless Whisper

Due to interest in the ask Chuck thread. So, battle of the six-minute excuses for saxaphone riffs!

Bonus points for anyone who can come up with a worthy suggestion for equivalents for the 90s or 00s. "Rumpshaker," maybe, but it doesn't pack the same sense of drama. "T.R.O.Y.," but it's way too...I dunno, meaningful? Other parts of the song are as great as the sax riff.

oh, and my opinion for the record:

Baker Street = better riff
Careless Whisper = better song

But the riffs >>>>> the song in these songs, so "Baker Street" wins.

"Baker Street" is a bigger, ballsier track with more dynamics, some cool-ass sweeping guitar surges and a heroic sax hook. "Carless Whisper" is nothing of the sort, but it's still a great melancholy pop song. I personally prefer the former, but at the end of the day, I'd say they're totally different forms of produce (i.e. "apples" and "oranges").

I don't see how they're even slightly different, really. I guess "Careless Whisper" has a more pronounced chorus, but I think they both pack the same sense of grand drama.

I might be projecting, as I haven't heard it in some time, but "Baker Street" has sort've an otherwordly vibe to it, whereas "Careless Whisper" is just enjoyably mawkish prom fodder to me.

Both great sax riffs. But Careless Whisper, while poetic, is at its core yet another "I loved and I lost" song, while Baker Street is far more evocative and elusive in its meaning. I like unwrapping presents, so I give the nod to "Baker St."

I don't really listen to the "Baker Street" verses. It's kind of like WHY IS HE SPEAKING WORDS WHERE SAXAPHONE COULD INSTEAD BE
